About Michael

Hi there! I'm a Stanford alumnus, former Teach For America teacher, and current Googler looking for tutoring opportunities in the SF Bay Area. Although I'm kept very busy in my current role, I miss the classroom and am looking to continue working with students who need that extra edge to be successful in their classes.

My generalist knowledge makes me the perfect fit for your child's tutoring needs. I majored in English, but have coursework in chemical engineering, computer science, and math. As a former Teach For America teacher, I taught both middle school and high school math and science in Richmond, California. I also have a masters degree in special education from Loyola Marymount University and am well-versed in the intricacies of personalized instruction. Additionally, I'm able to provide preparatory guidance in areas of college, competitive scholarships, and careers.

I taught for years at the middle school and high school level and know the expectations of Common Core State Standards. As a former teacher, I know how teachers think and how to differentiate instruction to make difficult concepts more accessible.

I grew up in Canada and have spent time abroad in both France and Central America. I love to travel and am eager to share my knowledge and expertise in these languages and cultures.

If you're interested in becoming a slam dunk student and working with someone who's at the nexus of experience and youthful enthusiasm, then I'm the tutor for you. I'm more than happy to share my teaching, educational, and career expertise and serve as both a mentor and role model.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

As a teacher for Teach For America, I went through training with how to work with students from Kindergarten to High School. While I ultimately taught Special Education Math and Science at both the high school and middle school levels, I believe my ability to differentiate instruction and knowledge of Common Core leaves me uniquely qualified for Elementary as well.

Prealgebra

Last year, I was a middle school math and science teacher in West Contra Costa Unified. While I currently work at Google, I am still very familiar with the curriculum and standards.
