About David

I have worked for over seven years as a high school math/English teacher. I teach math four periods a day and also run our school's Journalism program. I tutor students on a daily basis and as such, I am used to working with students of all different backgrounds and skill levels.

I work in a large, public high school that has 30+ person class sizes, so being able to work with students one-on-one is very satisfying because you can see progress and improvement. I like helping students gain confidence and set/accomplish their goals.

I currently teach AP Statistics and Computer Science Principles. In the past, I have taught Algebra, Geometry and Algebra 2. I scored an 800 on my SAT Math. But most importantly, I know how to break down concepts and explain them to students.

I majored in Communications at Stanford University. After college, I worked as a television producer for five years where script writing was one of my daily responsibilities. I currently have an English teaching credential and serve as the adviser of our school's highly rated publications. Through this role, I am constantly working with students on improving their writing. I also have spent lots of time helping students write college admissions essays. I think my biggest strength is my idea to translate ideas into clear and coherent writing.

While I have strong skills, my biggest strength is that I am a nice, caring person who gets along well with others. I pride myself on my ability to communicate effectively with both students and parents, and I can meet a student at whatever skill level they are at.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
