Tulane (French, Linguistics)
Hi! I'm Alice and I've been teaching or tutoring for years - I started off tutoring Juniors and Seniors in my college Freshman year French class who were just trying to fill the foreign language requirement. I studied French and Linguistics, and outside of class began tutoring English as a Second Language for newly arrived immigrants. I lived abroad in France, Senegal, and Belgium where I tutored kids, young adults, and college students in English. Last year I had the opportunity to lead a business English seminar sponsored by FedEx for women entrepreneurs in Guatemala, and it was pretty much the apex of my tutoring and teaching experiences.
I love learning languages and cultures, and meeting interesting people along the way. Studying French and Spanish have taken me to many different countries around the world, and through tutoring French I hope to inspire others to explore the world through a new language and a new lens.
I'm a great French tutor because I am proof you can come from a monolingual home and, through hard work, homework, and practicing on anyone who will listen, end up bilingual! I love speaking French and helping others find the right word, pronounce the "r" just the right way, and remember the obscure conjugation. I have experience with young children, teens, and adults, and I enjoy teaching almost as much as I enjoy learning it myself.
Speaking French has taken me to France, Senegal, and Belgium where lived, worked, and/or studied for a combined three years. Whether you're learning French to simply pass the class, to open up new international job opportunities, or just because you think it's a beautiful language, I can help you with grammar, vocabulary, speaking, pronunciation, as well as tips on movies to watch and music to listen to to get you even more enthused.
I have a degree in French and Linguistics from Tulane University.
I live in the city of San Francisco, and I'm available weekdays after 5pm and I'm flexible on the weekends. I can create individual lesson plans or I can work with your textbooks, homework, and goals. Please contact me to set up a phone call or an appointment. Hi! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
