About Charles

Together we can overcome any barriers between your current levels of skill in English and the levels you need to succeed. Share your struggles with me and we'll celebrate your victories together.

Although my primary career has been in the practice of law, I have a CELTA credential and substantial teaching experience. As adjunct faculty, I taught Benefits Administration in the Graduate School of Business of Golden Gate University, in San Francisco. I also served as an instructor with the Insurance Educational Association to prepare adult professionals for examinations to acquire the Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. While a graduate student in the English, I taught grammar and composition to college freshmen. Additionally, after graduate school, while living in Madrid, Spain, I taught English for six months at Lenguas Attica, a private language academy. Moreover, during my first semester at Harvard Law School, I was a volunteer English tutor for refugees from Cambodia and Laos.

I have a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Harvard University, and a Master of Laws from New York University, in Taxation. I also have a Master of Arts from Johns Hopkins University, in English and Writing Seminars, and a Bachelor of Arts (Summa cum Laude) from University of Buffalo, in English language and literature. Phi Beta Kappa.

Let's overcome the obstacles you are confronting -- my place, your place or on-line.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
