San Francisco State University (Enrolled)
I am a graduate student at San Francisco State University who would love to help you improve your writing and critical reading skills! If you're looking for someone to guide you through the essay-writing process, proofread your work, help you prepare for tests (standardized and in-class), work with you on critical reading skills, or anything else pertaining to the English and writing disciplines, I'm your girl.
I'm extremely passionate about literature and I hope that my enthusiasm will rub off on you. I know that for many people, literature and writing can feel inaccessible or even impossible, and I want to help you find meaningful, exciting ways to approach these disciplines. I am doing a teaching correlative as part of my degree, so I've had some experience teaching at the university level, and I intend to become a teacher when I finish school.
I am a recent graduate of San Francisco State University, where I received my bachelor's degree in English and Creative Writing. I had a 3.73 GPA overall and a 4.0 GPA in my major classes. I am now attending SFSU's competitive MFA program, where I will be getting both a Master's degree in English and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing. I achieved a score of 2100 on the SAT (perfect score in writing, 710 in English), and a 32 on the ACT (perfect score in writing).
Please drop me a line if you're interested in my services. My rates are affordable in comparison to many other tutors, and I am a personable, devoted, and patient teacher. More than anything, I want to make literature and writing as enjoyable for you as they are for me. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have always been fascinated by western religions and have done substantial independent research on Christianity and Judaism, including reading the bible in its entirety and keeping a blog to document my progress. I have also taken multiple classes on Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. In particular I am interested in the historical context of Jesus's ministry--the religious and political culture of Roman-occupied Palestine during the Second Temple Period. Recently I read a book called "The Historical Figure of Jesus," which shed light on these subjects. I have also read multiple novels about Jesus as I am interested in him as a literary/cultural figure.
