University of Illinois (German and English)
I have a B.A. degree with honors from the University of Illinois in both German and English Literature. I was a journalist for a local San Francisco newspaper for years and now specialize in blog article editing/writing as well as article writing for magazine or news publications. I can help you with your grammar, spelling, and reading comprehension. Most recently I've been tutoring at a local public school, where I've seen how helping a student early on can make a big difference in confidence and even lead to other good study habits.
I am a native German speaker and can help you with your conversational "Deutsch" or translate from German into English.
I am ready to accommodate my students and could meet up in my own home, in one of two local libraries or your home if you live nearby. My schedule is flexible and open at this writing, so I encourage you to give me a try. Thanks. I wish you well in your journey of education! Marion was a great teacher, helping me to prepare for my upcoming trip to Germany. Through conversation, I was able to refresh my memory and feel confident to speak with my Grandmother, who only speaks German.
Thanks again, Marion!
Marion met us in the public library. My children read with her and she engaged them in different ways depending on their needs. According to the three of them, she is "very good, friendly and kind."
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a B. A. degree in English; it has always been my favorite subject. Since last year I tutored a boy at a local public school and have personally witnessed how one-on-one attention can make a huge difference. Besides learning how to read and spell, he has gained confidence . It's really rewarding work!
I was born in Hannover, Germany and came to the U. S. as a child, and we continued speaking German within the family. Since I love Language, I studied German along with English Literature at the University of Illinois where I received a B. A. in each.
I spoke only German to my daughter until she was 4 years old. I read her books in German and we sang German songs. I wanted to keep the culture alive here in the United States.
