About Sarah

I am a graduate of Cornell University with a major in the Social Sciences. While a student there, I worked in the admissions office. I have been a tutor for over six years and have experience in literature, history, mathematics, and science. I am eager to work with students of all ages and provide support, insight, and techniques that students can use to excel in any subject or college admissions. I love meeting new people and hope to share my enthusiasm for learning with others.

I have tutored students over the course of an academic year as well as students looking to prepare for college admissions or specific exam/paper. In the past, I have tutored in person and via Skype. Both methods have worked well. One student of mine had been earning B's and C's throughout the year and I tutored her for the state exam which she scored a 94 on.

When I first meet with students we review problem areas and do a general assessment. I will then work with my students on developing a plan/curriculum that fits their needs, their timeline, and any assignments that are due. I also include organizational help with all of my tutoring.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

College Counseling

I worked as an admissions officer at Cornell University and have extensive knowledge of the process. I applied to and was accepted to multiple Ivy League Colleges. I have worked with multiple students who have successfully navigated the college process. Very eager to help students fulfill their potential and attend excellent universities to continue their education.

Handwriting

I have been a tutor for 8 years and have worked with many young students on fundamental skills. I used to have terrible handwriting and overcame this with practice and enthusiasm. I view handwriting as an art and a form of communication in the way the words are written on the page. I have a lot of patience and motivation to help students grow this critical skill set.

Public Speaking

I am a nationally ranked Speech & Debate champion. I debated in high school and at Cornell University. I have attended many speech competitions and practice sessions. Additionally, I took many courses in speech, writing, and persuasion. I used to be a very shy person but after exposing myself to the world of speech and debate I learned the skills to speak confidently and effectively.

Study Skills

I have been a tutor for 8 years and have attended an Ivy League college where I mastered the skills of organization, studying, time management, and reading. These skills are essential to any student of any age. I have been tutoring for 8 years now and can offer a lot of insight to students about why study skills matter.
