About Emma

Hi!

My name is Emma, and I am an experienced and enthusiastic tutor in San Francisco, CA. I mostly take work as an educational consultant and ESL/composition specialist. I also enjoy tutoring in the humanities and have a lot of background with international students.

I love to help people achieve their learning goals. With years of teaching and tutoring experience in higher education and as a volunteer, I tutor with a systematic and critical approach. My goal is to guide and support students on their path of learning.

I possess experience, technical skills, and a friendly attitude! I have worked with students from all walks of life and have studied abroad in Graz, Austria. I am proficient with the Office 2013 Suite, Windows 10, Mac OS, i-Pad, iOS, and Android platforms. I have an advanced proficiency in four languages, with rudimentary knowledge of several others, including Sanskrit.

My undergraduate work focused on philosophy, German, and classical studies. In addition to completing my B.A. with honors in philosophy at Eastern Michigan University, I wrote an honors thesis on Schopenhauer, which I presented at the Undergraduate Symposium in 2005. I also did interdisciplinary coursework, translating the philosophy of Lucretius from Latin.

At Georgia State University, my graduate coursework focused on Kant and German Idealism while auditing courses on Virgil and Cicero (2005). I have taught writing-intensive philosophy courses at GSU and Washtenaw Community College (2010). As a tutor at WCC, my duties included training and evaluating other tutors. I also researched online learning resources in French, Spanish, and German for the departmental WordPress portal, and I developed an online tutoring service (2013). After relocating to San Francisco in 2016 and working as an English tutor with local elementary students, I have gotten a position in the performance arts and wish to tutor part-time.

I currently write short poetry and prose, continue to publish, and perform regularly at open mics within the City.

It would be my pleasure to work with you toward your learning goals. Please contact me through WyzAnt e-mail. Thank you for your time!

Best,

Emma

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

As a tutor at Washtenaw Community College, my duties included training and evaluating the progress of other tutors, researching online learning resources, and developing an online tutoring service. I have also volunteered as an English tutor to help increase literacy in Washtenaw County. As a volunteer tutor, I coached and instructed families, including children and individual adults, on how to improve their English skills. I am committed to reciprocating the guidance, support, and knowledge that has been shared with me throughout my collegiate and professional career. This commitment drives me at work and in all my endeavors.

She is really amazing, I have dealing with many tutoring through my Master degree, but she so far the best one I have ever had in my lesson. She is so organized and helps me to organize my Ideas, and the time is worth it, she understand the value of time and she appreciate that. I will keep going work with her, Thanks Emma.
