Hello my name is Mayumi. I am a Tokyo native educated in Japan and U.S. I have a Master's degree in Statistics, Math and have taught different types of math to the undergraduate students during my graduate school. For the past several years, I have tutored both math and Japanese to students from age 7 to 70+.
Currently I am a mother of a 14 year old and she thinks I am great at breaking down the math problems to the simplest level. I would like to share my skills to help you understand and improve your math and make you feel more confident and comfortable with your school work.
My Japanese lessons are fun. I enjoy meeting students who are interested in Japanese language and customize the lessons according to their needs and levels. Hello my name is Mayumi. We hired Mayumi to give extra math sessions to challenge our son and his best friend, two 7 year old boys. Mayumi has been great at working with them: she is patient, keeps them on task, and comes up with fun math games for them to play. She keeps them from getting into too much of a rivalry with each other while also challenging each of them. She observes the areas of math that are hard for them and finds different ways to work on those, and plans out how to push them further along. We are very happy with her tutoring and would highly recommend her.
Our daughter has always been afraid of Math. Mayumi made her feel at ease and was very patient and explained the material at a pace that worked for our daughter. We'll be seeing more of Mayumi in the future!
I started learning Japanese on my own a few months ago and then found Mayumi. We've been meeting once a week since February and it's been immensely helpful and enjoyable. Mayumi is terrific - I learn something exciting and new in every lesson and she's great at explaining new concepts.
She sends homework very quickly after each lesson which is perfect for consolidating what I've learned. Highly recommended!
Mayumi was great with communication and a joy to work with. I would highly recommend her for Math assistance.
My 8th grade daughter needed help with her Algebra 1 homework and preparation for tests. My husband tried many times to help but he doesn't explain it well. Mayumi explained it easily for her to grasp and understand the concept. She loved working with Mayumi from the very start. We will definitely continue to seek her out if there is a need for Math or Japanese help.
Mayumi is a great math tutor. She has been tutoring my son Matthew with Algebra 2 and has tremendously helped him. She has a strong grasp of the material and is very easy to work with. She is very accommodating with scheduling and makes math fun. Matthew really enjoys working with her and actually looks forward to their sessions together. She has really built up his confidence and is succeeding in this class. I highly recommend her as a tutor!
Even in just two months, my Japanese has improved a lot.
The course is flexible and helpful, and I definitely recommend studying with her.
Mayumi is a great teacher!
It was a joy working with Mayumi. Truly, learning Japanese with her was one of the most fun things I did all summer. She helped me reach my language goal before moving to Japan to live and work. I feel much more confident that I will be able to get around and make friends while I am there.
Mayumi was friendly, warm, and very patient! I stumbled through our practicing at times but she patiently corrected and guided me. I will miss our tutoring sessions. Thank you, Mayumi!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have tutored elementary Math to students in the past years. I am particularly good at breaking down the math concept so that the students are easily able to comprehend.
