CAL POLY STATE UNIVERSITY (History)
University of San Francisco (Master's)
My love of teaching and education comes from a lifelong passion of learning. As a credentialed teacher with a Master's in Teaching, I believe that hard work and a commitment to learning pays off significantly. I have gained substantial tutoring and teaching experience working both outside of the United States (Honduras specifically) and in California. Currently, I am a sixth grade Language Arts, Social Studies and 6th-8th grade Reading Intervention teacher at a middle school in the Bay Area. Despite the fact that I teach those subject areas, I have a multiple subject credential and feel confident in teaching other subjects.
As a teacher of 75 students during the school year, I believe it is essential that I differentiate my lessons for each and every one of them. I approach tutoring with the same philosophy. Every individual learns in a different way and it is my job to determine what works best. As a tutor I will prepare lessons for each session that challenge the student, but will also keep them engaged and excited about learning.
I hold myself to a high standard and will ask for feedback to ensure that the student or parent is satisfied with the arrangement and results.
I have a 24 hour cancellation policy, but will be flexible and work with the student or parent to figure out a time that works to make up the missed session.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you in your studies. My love of teaching and education comes from a lifelong passion of learning. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I received a Multiple Subject credential and Masters in Teaching from the University of San Francisco, which qualifies me to teach kindergarten through eighth grade in California. I am currently a sixth grade Language Arts, Social Studies, and Reading Intervention teacher. Before receiving my credential, I gained experience teaching elementary school in Honduras and tutored students at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco.
I received a BCLAD (Spanish) Multiple Subject Credential along with a Masters in Teaching from the University of San Francisco in 2013. Since I am a credentialed teacher, I would be happy to show my credentials or my certification that I passed the RICA and CSET for multiple subjects. Also, over the past two years I have been employed as a middle school teacher in Redwood City teaching two cores of sixth grade Language Arts and Social Studies. Please let me know what I can submit to verify my qualifications.
