University of San Francisco (Finance)
Hello, my name is Ilya. I have graduated Magna Cum Laude from University of San Francisco with a degree in Finance, went on to obtain a Real Estate License, and then spent several years teaching English as a Second Language abroad. Upon my return to the Bay Area, I got a job as a Social Worker and spent the next two years of my life mentoring children and working with underserved families. Work in the social services sector lead me to pursue interests in other areas, in particular, health and wellness and how a child’s personal surroundings impact his/her performance at school.
I became so fascinated with these subjects that I began taking night courses in various science disciplines, ultimately seeking to satisfy my natural curiosity and enable my desire to make a lasting difference in the lives of other people. Today, I’m actively engaged in the pursuit of a graduate level nursing degree while volunteering at a local hospital. Having served as a teacher’s assistant for many of the college classes I took, private tutoring feels like a natural fit: It not only affords me the flexibility to create my personal work schedule, but allows me to engage with a few select students one on one.
Even though I’m very warm and approachable, I try to instill a sense of discipline and commitment in the students that I work with. Whoever you are, I hope that I can help you or your child reach his/her personal academic goals.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Too often, students get bogged down with minutiae, wasting precious time and energy in areas that don't contribute to academic success. I place study skills at the forefront of my personal pedagogical approach, constantly looking for ways to help refine and inform the student's understanding of the most efficient means of accomplishing the task at hand. I have successfully taught elementary, middle, and high school children, as well as adults of all ages and socioeconomic backgrounds, how to get better organized and be able to utilize their resources more effectively, placing special emphasis on proper time management and homework skills.
