Hello students!

The great Greek philosopher, Aristotle, once said, “ The roots of education are bitter but the fruit is sweet.”

For the past 7 years, I have had an unabated passion to help students enjoy the fruits of their labour. As a student in university, I played an active role in shaping people’s academic path, such as being a teaching assistant for an upper division science course. However, my knowledge transcends the boundaries of the sciences, as I was a peer tutor for English, history, psychology, sociology, and other humanities courses.

As the years have passed, I have strived to refine my skills in how I disseminate knowledge to my students. In addition, I have come to find that the students that I have had the privilege of teaching have been one of my greatest teachers. Through the journey of acquiring more knowledge, I have found more effective ways to share my knowledge with others and hope to pass it on to you, as well.

I teach/tutor the following academic subjects: English/Writing, Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, Algebra, Algebra II, intermediate Algebra, World History, American History, psychology and other humanities courses.

In regards to my teaching style, my philosophy is quite simple: My method focuses on teaching you how to learn. Those of you reading – be it potential students or parents – have come to realize that your educational experience has made you a master in what to think, but not so much how to think. For instance, you may be very good at memorizing a variety of formulas for your mathematics or chemistry courses or very easily recite the pathways of cellular respiration and the respiratory system, but you may find it difficult to make critical connections between systems and think about how concepts relate to each other, even if they appear to be immaterial. For this problem, I make it a priority to make sure students think critically about everything they learn; to make connections from previously learned concepts and even, other academic subjects or courses. In essence, my teaching philosophy can be distilled into a few words by an incredibly wise man, we will both “look for the answer inside your question.”

People seek help for different reasons: it could be that you want to experience a “breakthrough” in a particular subject that troubles you, or you may just want to explore your passion for a certain subject in broader and deeper detail. Whatever the case may be, my ultimate goal for each lesson is that you be edified, intellectually.

To those of you who seem to be at the end of your rope, please do not lose hope. We will work together to make your academic hopes, goals and dreams a reality. Just remember: you already have the tools you need for success: a brain and the will to succeed (as is evidence by you seeking out help), to name a few ; with these tools, anything is possible. And, If you ever find yourself in the depths of despair, always remember, “ you were born with wings; why crawl through life?”

I have over three years of experience in working with students. I believe I can meet or exceed the necessary qualifications to teach students in algebra. I make it a priority to show students interesting and easy methods to understand difficult concepts. For all the students I have taught, I have shown them that repetition is key. After working with them, their scores improved dramatically. I cannot afford to rush students because algebra is the foundation for more advanced mathematics courses (i.e. algebra II, pre-calculus, calculus). So, I will do everything I possible can for your student to be successful in algebra.

I specialize in critiquing college admission essays. Not only will I critique student's essays, but I will also work with them to fill out a wholesome application. I make it a priority for students to stand out, be the person the admission person remembers after reading 100 applications. When students seek help on their college admission essay, I won't stop with the mere brainstorming and proofreading routine, but we'll work together to craft an application that tells a unique and distinct story because that is what will separate the student from the rest of the pack. Some of the students I have tutored have been accepted into top-tier schools like UC Berkeley, Cornell University, UCLA, University of Michigan, and University of Pennsylvania. I look forward to working with you.
