My experience from a long education career enables me to better understand students, envisage their difficulties and help them where they need help. I am quite confident that I am able to guide them to understand what they don't understand in class and enable them to master maths and/or Chinese more effectively and independently. I will make good use of private tutoring sessions to help the students with different teaching approaches and supplemented materials.

Chinese

I can help you to master Mandarin or Putonghua by guiding you how to read, write, speak, listen, pronounce (pinyin) and complete Chinese assignments. I am familiar with both traditional and simplified Chinese.

Elementary Education

Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I am tutoring a 6th grader in elementary math and she is a honour student in Alice Fong Yu Alternative School. The topics covered include: Numbers, Fractions, Algebra, Equations and Functions, Probability, Geometry, Statistics, Ratios, and Measurements. The experience helps me to understand what are the difficulties in learning this subject and how to help the students to move forward.

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

Do you need help to learn numbers, equations, graphs, factorization, and solve word problems etc? I would love to help you to understand the keys to the problems and ways to find the solutions.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

Do you have difficulty in solving problems in Algebra 2? I can help you to find ways to solve problems in polynomials, roots and zeros, graphs, algorithms, trigonometry, geometry, complex numbers, matrices and determinants, and word problems.
Calculus,

Calculus

Have trouble with calculus? With over 30-year experience in math, I have ways to lead you to overcome the problems in limits, differentiation, integration and their applications. Plenty of materials and worked examples over all the areas are ready for you which would ease off your study in this difficult subject.
Geometry,

Geometry

In my professional career, I relied on geometry to help my job in finding optimal cutting from a piece of raw material. In order to be good at geometry one needs to be familiar with orientation, lines, figures, shapes, rotation, reflection, transforms and graphical method. Therefore the key to teaching geometry is to be able to use more illustrative examples to let students "see" what is happening or the problem of a question.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

Do you have problems with functions, conic sections, complex numbers, vectors, advanced trigonometry, analytic geometry, probability and applications of matrices? There are plenty of materials and worked examples ready for you to get a hard grasping on the concepts.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

My 10 y.o. son had a good lesson with Brian, for the first time he said that math was kind of fun and he wants to do it again. I am very pleased.

Very patient and kind teacher

Brian was very patient but challenging teacher. We had him for my son's SSAT preparation. Brian took some time to send materials for my son to help better understanding the sections that my son was not clear about. His following up to make sure my son's understanding made him such a special and caring teacher. We truly recommend him.

Excellent Tutor

All my lessons have been very valuable. Brian knows how to teach, and as a student, you will be able to accomplish what you want. Brian has a unique way of teaching you how to speak Chinese. He makes you feel like you are part of the conversation. He has great expertise in speaking and pronouncing Chinese. Brian has provided me with an abundant source of material that he has prepared prior to each lesson. This information is invaluable. I know my goal will be achieved because of this material, and by the way that he teaches. One of the best instructors to have. He is very conscientious of the students needs and wishes. I really appreciate having Brian as my instructor. I couldn't have found anybody better.

Great Lessons

We had a lot to cover in our first lesson and Brian went through everything at a pace I could follow. I think he is very experienced so he can easily detect where the issues are and so that we can go over those in more depth. I will certainly recommend Brian. I had my second lesson with Brian and he had prepared everything again well in advance with power point and exercises for me to practice, in particular in my trouble areas. He also provided me with a mock exam of everything that should be included. I highly recommend Brian for his method and approach to math problems.

Great tutor.

Brian is a great tutor. I had trouble in understanding the concepts of Radicals in Algebra 1 but Brian understood the areas I needed to work on so drilled me with problems and took his time to make sure I really understood it. I've never had such an amazing tutor in my whole entire life. I definitely recommend Brian if you need help in Math.
