I have been tutoring for fifteen years, with particular skillfulness in readying students for the PSAT, SAT, ACT and GRE. I've worked with a wide range of students, from the elementary school level to graduate school level, and am especially proud of having helped many students earn scholarship offers to the high schools and colleges of their choice.
I received my academic training primarily at Harvard University, where I earned a bachelor's degree with honors in Biology, while maintaining a passionate interest in the humanities. My Expository Writing courses, taught by master instructors, prepared me particularly well to assist other students in improving their writing skills, their grades, and their confidence.
I bring this approach to all of my students -- I build them up, rather than knock them down. The grades and the higher test scores tend to follow.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Drawing on my own education in the sciences, I've been helping ACT science students raise their scores for the last five years. I can't think of any students who have not been very happy with the results we have achieved together.
My graduate studies have included the study of ADHD. I am particularly well-acquainted with the Spark Program developed by John Ratey, MD and its applications to the school setting. More personally, I have lived with ADHD for many years, and know first-hand just how challenging the condition can be; I also know that it does not ultimately have to get in the way of learning anything one wishes to learn. I have worked with a number of ADHD clients, with great success.

I have been providing College Counseling services to high school juniors and seniors and their families for four years. I adopt a whole-person approach.
I develop, in consultation with families and students, a plan that enables the student to find the college choice that best fits his or her interests, abilities and goals.
Variables we consider include parental resources, student high school records, SAT and ACT scores, extracurricular activities, scholarship and grant opportunities, match between student and university strengths, and the university's record for placing students in employment types in the student's chosen field.
I am certified as a Personal Trainer by the American Council on Exercise. I have trained a wide range of clients, from new or returning exercisers to elite athletes. I have special expertise in functional training for injury prevention and in mindfulness-based strength training.

I have been studying standardized tests like the GED since I was in high school. I realized that smart people sometimes failed to do well on the GED or ACT or SAT -- not because they did not know the material -- but because they simply did not know how to prepare for their test.
Ever since then, I have been helping students find their confidence and succeed on the tests like the GED. Helping students learn and make their lives better remains one of my passions.

I began learning Hebrew at Eliahu Academy elementary school and graduated with a good understanding of Biblical Hebrew. I returned to my Hebrew studies two years ago, with a focus on contemporary conversational Hebrew.
I speak Hebrew on a daily basis with friends and keep current with current developments with a program of study including Hebrew webcasts from popular television channels, Israel Broadcasting Authority and Tel Aviv University.
My study skills were quite poor when I entered Harvard University as an undergraduate, because I had always focused my energies on subject-related preparation, rather than overall organization. I learned very quickly, however, as a freshman, that passion for knowledge would be insufficient to get me through four years of competition with my Harvard peers. I took two extensive Study Skills seminars-- one for the Humanities and one for the Sciences--and learned from honors students precisely how to organize my time, my ideas, and my efforts to ensure best results. As a tutor, I have shared these practices with many students who have benefited similarly. As a WyzAnt tutor, I look forward to helping many more students in the same way.
