About Frank

Dear Parents and Students,

I am an honest, energetic person who seeks to better himself every day. I am physically active, and like staying politically and socially aware. I have a positive outlook on the world, and enjoy learning and spreading the common good. I received my Bachelor's in Elementary Education (K-6) through Appalachian State University.

Teaching Experience

-I participated in programs to tutor small groups of 4th graders. In this experience I had two groups of students for 4 weeks each. This group of students was a mixture of low level math students, for whom I put together a series of lessons and activities in order to catch them up in geometry, and long division math.

-Teacher's assistant in a 5th grade class. As teacher's aid I learned classroom management and behavioral management by reaching students as individual learners . Teaching multiple lessons in math, reading, science, social studies and history gave me confidence in the power of learning.

- Lead teacher for 5th and grade homeschooling curriculum. I made pre and post assessment evaluations of the student on all subject matters with the student demonstrating significant academic improvements . Using data gathered by the assessments I created an individualized learning strategy to maximize learning through embracing his particular learning intelligence. I focused on structuring lessons to overlap various subject areas, a strategy that increases student retention ability.

My teaching and tutoring method is a mixture of various teaching strategies which all depend on what the individual student may need and what can give them a unique connection to the material being learned. Each student has their own individual needs and strengths. I would start with the multi-intelligence approach. Once the needs and strengths are gathered one can decide which way to use student’s most dominant intellectual traits to aid their learning. We can then focus on those traits to diminish learning weakness and improve student academic performance. The strategy used with each student is different and adaptable to each case. Its the responsibility of all parents/ teachers involved to cooperate and decide on the appropriate path of instruction. Cooperation ensures productivity and academic growth. All work is done in the interest of producing positive academic and independent growth in each student.

I am excited to meet you and hope to provide and learn from all of our experiences.

Sincerely

Mr. Frank Alejandro C.T.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

The Elementary Education (K-6) subject is one that I am passionately familiar with due to my experience at Appalachian State University (ASU) where I received my Bachelors in Elementary Education (K-6) through ASU Elementary Education Program. The program prepares teachers to know developmental needs of children, effective teacher/school research findings, elementary school curriculum and pedagogical models and strategies. The program emphasizes on teaching teachers how to meet the needs of all students, including students of diverse backgrounds and with special learning needs.

The hands on experience from the ASU Education Program have provided the necessary skills to perform all the essential skills of an elementary school educator. I have various skills which include the mastery of basic content in several basic disciplines, including communication skills, mathematics and sciences, health education, the social sciences, and applied arts. I have knowledge of the principles of curriculum/ learning theories and have an understanding of their relationship to instructional programs for children. I have had success teaching in a variety of learning environments and in the various elementary education subject matter areas. I have performed effective instructional practices including: planning, implementing, evaluating, and reflecting. I have up to date knowledge of contemporary issues and trends in education within a historical, philosophical, and sociological framework. I also have a good understanding of human growth and development with emphasis on the elementary years.
