About Michael

A strong liberal arts education and a long career in statistical modeling have left me filled with facts and skills that I am motivated to pass on. Most important of these is a strong intuition for rooting out problems in analyses and finding alternative ways to make things work. I believe these are both teachable skills. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chess

I have been playing the games for 40 years. I am a rated player, having played in a number of tournaments. I was 3rd board on my high school chess team. I currently play online, playing an average of 50 speed games per week.

Python

I have been programming in Python for over 8 years. I have developed major applications in Python while working at FICO, and I have developed a browser-based reporting system in Python (with Django) while at another employer. I have also designed a website for my small business using Python and Django.

Excellent Tutor!

Michael is a great tutor! He is focused, patient, and knowledgeable. He helped me with my doctoral level statistics and research methods which I was finding very challenging. He help me break down each step into manageable concepts and apply them. The end result was that I find stats more accessible (though not a master) and was able to move forward. I highly recommend him!
