Jim visited my home for over 6 weekends preparing me for an exam on Quantitative Methods. My normal reaction following finishing an exam is "I hope to pass" this time with Jim's help I now say "I expecting my first A". Very valuable tutoring by Jim and I highly recommend him.
Jim is a very patient tutor, I'll be working with him continuously until I finish my MBA. He's very knowledgeable about corporate finance and he's able to explain the reasoning behind the applied formulas.
Each time I complete a tutoring session with James, I feel more confident and able to apply what I've learned.
He is very patient and easy to communicate, really helpful to my problem set. I am going to have more lesson with him.
Jim is the best tutor of all time. Patient and great and explaining things. Advanced
knowledge in all math topics (calculus, algebra, statistics, etc). We worked together on GMAT prep as well and he was superb. Also a big Grateful Dead fan. What's cooler than that!?!
I worked with James for 5 or 6 sessions to prepare me for the quant section of the GRE. I've always struggled with math, and barely passed my required classes in college. I was taking lots of practice tests and doing practice problems and I hired Jim to go over the problems that I was not understanding. He didn't focus on learning specific tricks, he focused on getting me a solid grounding in the material. My score went up 5 points from 149 to 154. Enough for me to move from the 49% to the 70%. My verbal score is very high so I think I should be able to get into the schools I want to go to.
Jim is best for students who want to study in a practice way. Not ideal for students who need hand holding about what to study or how. Highly recommended.
James was a great help getting me through an incredibly challenging class (Discrete Math and Probability Theory). He drove out of his way to come to my home each week, was very flexible about scheduling, and always quick to respond to emails and text messages. Before getting James's help, I scored significantly below average on the fist midterm. After working with James, my understanding improved greatly and I scored significantly above average on the final. His tutoring improved my understanding greatly. I highly recommend him!
Great teacher. Very knowledgeable and able to explain things clearly and make it interesting.
My son scored 4 out of 5 on his AP Macro and Micro Econ exams with only few lessons with James.
Highly recommend this teacher.
One of Jim's reviewers said that he was helpful in preparing him for his quantitative exams, so that was what I was looking for in a tutor. I have my DrPH quantitative exam tomorrow and I have to say that I feel better prepared than before signing up with Jim. We went over several example exams and he explained the material very patiently. I'm a visual and auditory learner, so hearing Jim explain things to me (sometimes it was the same statistical test, but presented in a different manner) and seeing him write or illustrate examples helped me a lot. He showed me short-cuts and testing strategies, something I valued from someone who has gone through the dissertation process. I highly recommend him!
Jim has tutored my son for 2 years. He is punctual, thorough and has an exceptional understanding of the help that my son needs.
James was very responsive to my needs in a timely fashion. He tried many ways to explain Calculus, which I took too long ago and not much recollection at the time. I needed to pass it with a grade at least B to meet my grad-school requirement. I passed it with an A. I am very thankful to James for his encouragement, patience, knowledge in math, which shred lights on my ignorance in math that was more than in calculus.
My piece of advice to succeed in calculus is that James can only do his part to enlighten us, but as his tutees we must do most of the work. Do all the problems before meeting with him. Have your questions organized, so he can help you to maximize your resources and his time.
All the best!
James B. is excellent. He makes me understand the concepts of the binomial trees and helps me work on the problems.
Stats is not my strongest subject, so I was thankful that Jim did great job at simplifying the material. He was patient and thorough in going through my assignment and answering questions. He was very approachable and made me feel like no question was ridiculous.
James was a perfect match for our child for assisting with SAT prep, both math and writing skills. We were pleased with his teaching style, patience and thoroughness at each visit. He communicated effectively and arrived on time for each session.
Jim made my Masters level Business Economics material come to life. Plenty of real world examples, solid math and master of the materials. Don't hesitate, hire Jim.
James - is a wonderful tutor. He's very patient and is a careful listener when I have questions or don't understand a topic. He's clear and articulate about explaining answers or topics in a manner that is easy for me to grasp. Setting up sessions with James was super quick too because he's very responsive. I highly recommend James as a tutor.
He responds quickly to phone calls or emails and is always on time to our sessions. I highly recommend Jim B.
James helped me meet my goals and now I have a new job! As part of my job interview process, I had to take a STATA test. Without having any experience using STATA I thought I was in trouble. However James brought his computer over with STATA and was very patient and helpful. He is a great teacher, I highly recommend him to anyone!
James is reliable, patient, and really knows his material! He explained advanced concepts in a way I could understand, and was supportive throughout some very challenging material. I would not have passed Discrete Math without his help - highly recommended!
James is an excellent tutor, he has the patience and skills of a great teacher. I wasn't very confident in my knowledge of Statistics but he gave me back my confidence and provided the focus I needed to understand this very difficult subject.
Very helpful, non-judgmental and non-critical. Teaches in an organized, understandable fashion. Explains everything in terms that I can understand, which makes learning enjoyable and reduces my stress significantly.I am accomplishing my goals!
I have been corresponding with James for over a year to try to help my son. He has been very willing to help each time I have contacted him.
Now hopefully my son will be able to get through this class and on with his life!
One word describes services provided by James B. OUTSTANDING!
James is flexible and easy to work with. He knows the subject (advanced math) and is really able to teach it but he does not have transportation so you have to make arrangement to meet him in mid town. He has really helped our son to succeed in Calculus semester one. We would strongly recommend him.
Jake seems to be learning well with James' help. He understood the material upon completion of the lesson.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
