I have always enjoyed working one-on-one with students. I taught French for 15 years to students of all levels. Throughout that time I spent many hours working outside of class with individual students and tutored during the summer. I particularly enjoy helping beginning and intermediate (French 1 & French 2) students build a solid foundation in their understanding of the language while acquiring substantial vocabulary and confidence in their general speaking skills. Believe it or not, I like grammar and I love to teach it! I won't force it on you, but if it's got you stumped, I'd love to help you make some sense out of it. I also enjoy teaching pronunciation. Once you know a few rules, it's not that hard.
There are many fun & interesting aspects of French and it is a real pleasure for me to see my students progress. I try as quickly as possible to identify the problem areas, help my students overcome them and also suggest helpful study skills. The ultimate goal is that they become confident learners who see and are pleased with their own progress. I am very patient.
After earning my Masters in French from Middlebury College's French School in Paris, I returned to France several times for various summer courses, teacher workshops, and homestays. I've also traveled to Montreal for a summer tutorial and homestay and participated in a summer institute studying other French-speaking regions of the world.

Ms. H is the best! My daughter has learned so much! She has become more confident in her French II class! Ms. H is wonderful, so patient and kind. She goes over the material and reviews all that is not understood. I love that she is always wearing a smile and make the subject fun! I am so happy we found her!
If you want your child to learn and excel at FRENCH, Ms. H can help.
Pamela was a lifesaver!! Last summer, we were not sure if my son would actually pass to French II, but with her help, he did. We stayed with her through this year too and he did much better. My son really liked her teaching style and I truly appreciated Pam's focus, her feedback and suggestions. It was so refreshing to have someone that was always dependable and flexible.
Pamela is an excellent choice for a French tutor. Knowledgeable, patient, flexible schedule. Wouldn't use anyone else. Thank you Pamela for helping our daughter get through her French class this year.
We worked on the passe compose as well as reviewing an audio segment that we had both listened to prior to the lesson.
Pamela is always on time. She's patient, kind, flexible and most important...very knowledgeable. I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to work with her.
Pamela is a skilled teacher. She takes time to explain and provides me with tips and exercises to help me learn. She is patient and encourages me to excel. She makes learning fun, and I am always empowered to improve after each session.
My 12 year old daughter spent the past school year with Pamela on a weekly basis learning French in order to prepare her for her summer trip. Pamela tailored each lesson based on my daughter's strengths and weaknesses and took time preparing lessons that revolved around my daughter's world to make it more relatable. I was very please with the progress over the year. Pamela was also very timely, which was much appreciated. I highly recommend her as she has the necessary skills to help students of all levels. It was a pleasure working with her and I know for sure my daughter enjoyed her lessons.
Pam is a very good tutor. I find that she manages well the time and expectations of both her student, and the student's parents. She always is amenable to good discussion, and flexible re: results of those discussions.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Master's degree in French from Middlebury College, renown for its language schools, as well as 15 years of classroom experience at the middle and high school levels. During my tenure as a classroom teacher I worked with individual students on a regular basis and for four years now, I have been tutoring exclusively.
While studying for my Master's I lived in Paris. Since then, various summer courses and teacher workshops have led me to Auvergne, Normandy, Lorraine, and Montreal where I also lived with local families.
