I've always loved math and physics, but it wasn't until my time in college I realized how much I love teaching them. From the outside, they can appear esoteric. But, they are truly accessible to anyone. The most rewarding aspect of teaching is watching students have the "A-ha!" moments in real time.

While studying physics and math at USD, I tutored part-time and got to see first-hand which methods work best for students of varying levels. This insight followed me into graduate school at SDSU. This time, however, I was not teaching small groups --- I was teaching a full classroom of undergrads. After writing original lectures and quizzes, grading assignments and giving feedback, I feel I've gained an even better understanding of how to teach a topic the first time around.

I describe my teaching style as methodic and visual. This means carefully breaking a problem into smaller pieces informed by basic principles, often the first ideas we may learn in a class. This helps to not only avoid unnecessary mistakes, but also reinforce our problem-solving habits. Moreover, I use diagrams and color coding. As exercises increase in size, the use of color system helps to subconsciously associate each moving part, as well as see how it all comes together.

For math, I am most comfortable teaching calc 1-3, linear algebra, discrete math, differential equations, and numerical analysis. For physics, I am most comfortable teaching mechanics, EM, stat mech, QM, nuclear, fluids, astro, and programming. These are subjects I have not only spent countless hours learning and teaching, but also use actively in my everyday life, whether it be for my graduate coursework or my research on neutron stars.

Being a student, I am more than aware of the importance of *how* a topic is taught. Since subjects become increasingly nuanced as we progress in our education, I want to ease the burden of incomprehensible lectures or clumsy educators so you can learn confidently. I will always give my best effort to be patient, flexible, and responsive.

Calculus,

Calculus

I studied both physics and math at the University of San Diego and have tutored since 2016. I have experience with Probability, Number Theory, Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations, Abstract Algebra, Real Analysis, and Numerical Analysis. However, I mostly tutor on the subjects of calculus 1-3, ODEs, PDEs, and numerical methods.
Physics

Physics

I double majored in physics and math at the University of San Diego and graduated with honors in physics. I took advanced coursework in Probability, Number Theory, Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations, Abstract Algebra, Real Analysis, and Numerical Analysis. Starting in 2016, I tutored through the math department for various courses, often times the discrete mathematics course for engineers. Frequently, students would later see me on campus and thank me for my help on their upcoming exams.

Discrete Math

I double-majored in physics and math at the University of San Diego and graduated with honors in physics. Currently, I am an M.S. physics student at SDSU working on thesis research on neutron stars and actively use advanced math every day. My undergraduate coursework included Probability, Number Theory, Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations, Abstract Algebra, Real Analysis, and Numerical Analysis. Although I was a math tutor in college, I have been a physics teaching associate at SDSU for two years.

Help me Create an Excellent Study Guide

My professor sent me an email to days before my final about what the final was I didn’t have much to prepare off of but Noah did a great job creating a study guide for me that was very helpful even though it was at such a short notice

Went good

Helped me understand my HW problem better. It’s what I needed to get started and gave me something to go off of. I liked how we were able to discuss and work through it together

Excellent tutor! Patient, good at teaching concepts

As a parent, I like Noah’s clarity of communication, professionalism, ease of scheduling and vast knowledge of physics and math. As a student, my 16 year old really likes Noah because he is friendly, patient, clear, and fundamentally is just skilled at explaining and teaching the material. We definitely plan to work with him again.

Excellent Tutor!

Noah has tutored my son a few times and we have been quite impressed. He knows Physics extremely well and has a very effective way of teaching it. My son has had a few tutors and can tell me right after the first lesson whether or not the tutor is a keeper. He definitely is!
