I'm Kati! I recently graduated from UC San Diego with a PhD in linguistics. My favorite part of being a graduate student was the time I got to spend teaching and mentoring students. I strove to make my lessons fun and engaging, and I try to help students see how the subject they're learning applies to other areas in their lives.
My specialization involved linguistic field work, where I worked directly with native speaker communities. As a result, I'm experienced with ethnography and working with diverse communities.
I took German for eight years, and to qualify for my PhD, I had to demonstrate conversational proficiency and academic-level reading skills in German.
I'm a published author with extensive background in multiple fields of linguistics. My main specializations are phonetics, phonology and morphology, but I've also conducted research in or taught phonetics, syntax, sociolinguistics, typology, and computational linguistics. I've also taught ESL and worked as a research mentor teaching critical reading and writing skills.
Please contact me if you are interested in learning more. My schedule is very flexible right now.
