I'm driven by a passion for helping my students become more capable of achieving their goals. I've enabled students to increase their focus on tough tasks, organize their thoughts and work more clearly, grasp complex concepts, and develop skills for dealing with frustration and overwhelm. I offer years of experience as a tutor and coach in a wide range of subjects and contexts, from helping students improve their academic performance to guiding clients towards clarity on their struggles with general productivity. I love seeing the individuals I work with cultivate a greater sense of self-efficacy--the belief that they can set goals and execute the actions necessary to reach them. The warmth, care, and irrepressible humor I bring to my sessions make for a tutoring experience that is not just effective, but also enjoyable!

After graduating from Duke University, I spent a year on a Fulbright scholarship in Madrid, where my native fluency in Spanish helped me support my students' ESL progress. I later transitioned into the field of test prep, where my knowledge of pedagogy allowed my students to improve their scores by as much as 200 SAT points in just two months. Since then, I have expanded my focus beyond academic tutoring to include executive functioning and productivity coaching.

As a curriculum developer, workshop leader, and instructor for a Bay Area nonprofit, I've spent hundreds of hours providing group and one-on-one tutoring, mentoring, and coaching in "applied rationality"--a toolbox of practical skills ranging from forming clear goals and making solid plans to building healthy habits, communicating assertively, and practicing mindful self-regulation. I've organized international summer programs for mathematically talented students (including International Olympiad gold medalists) and led teacher training programs, all in service of providing others with powerful tools for thinking clearly and acting effectively. I look forward to working with you!

As an executive functioning coach, I'm driven by a love of connecting with my students and enabling them to thrive in school and life. I help my students struggling with ADHD to do what they need to: keep complex schedules and projects organized, stay focused when distractions arise, be gentle with feelings of frustration or overwhelm, and generally build a deep sense of their own self-efficacy. I provide students with concrete techniques and helpful practices that I've been trained in; and the warmth, care, and irrepressible humor I bring to every session makes the experience of working with me not only transformative, but enjoyable. As a curriculum developer, workshop leader, and instructor for a Bay Area nonprofit, I spent hundreds of hours providing group and one-on-one tutoring, mentoring, and coaching in "applied rationality"--a toolbox of practical skills ranging from goal formation and planning to habit building, assertive communication, and mindful self-regulation. I'm honored to offer this experience, along with my intuitive and empathetic disposition, to the parents and students I work with.

Knowledgeable and Professional

My son, who struggles with attention, recently started working with Luke, focusing on EF skills. Luke clearly has a lot of academic knowledge, experience, and expertise. My son genuinely looks forward to his sessions with Luke, and he has already begun incorporating some of the strategies he is learning. We feel fortunate to have found Luke, and look forward to continuing sessions!

Responsive and helpful

Luke is helping our son with time management and organizational skills as he starts his college classes. Luke is responsive and professional. He provided our son with tools to help him organize his class work schedule in the very first session! Our son is appreciative of Luke’s ability to help him manage his coursework , and looks forward to working with him going forward.

Luke is a Life Saver!!!

I’m a single mom and work long hours to put my middle school son through private school. When he was recently diagnosed with ADD, I reached out to Luke for help. My son needed to learn how to study for the way his brain works, and it was a constant battle between us getting him to do his homework. Once Luke stepped in, I was able to take a much needed step back - and it’s been AMAZING how much he has helped my son. Luke told me in the beginning that he needed to be able to connect with my child first - and not to be surprised if a lot of the lessons (especially in the beginning) just sounded like them joking around and not doing anything “productive”. But that is what sold me - because I know my child - and if he doesn’t get that “connection” with you - then he will NOT listen to you or take anything you say seriously. We’ve been with Luke for almost 9 months now, and it’s been the best decision ever. If your child struggles with ADD, I cannot recommend him enough!!!!!

Organized, skilled, helpful tutor

Luke was great at helping our son to bridge from high school study skills to college skills. He was personable, met our son where he was, and had great suggestions! A huge help.

Compassionate and caring

Luke really connected well with my college- aged son and helped him make some very difficult decisions, and then helped him lay out a plan to follow. We will definitely use Luke in the future when my son is more emotionally prepared to take on college.

Insightful

Luke has such a calming manner and I am so encouraged by his comprehensive approach to understanding the whole student. He is working with my son on executive function skills. The ability to organize and efficiently manage an overwhelming work load is the base of all success and Luke has such a wonderful way of working with that.

Great fit for my son!

Luke has been working with our 15 year old son for several months. He worked hard at the beginning to build a strong connection and relationship and then used that connection to observe and make strategic suggestions that my son has responded well to. After each session, he gives a written breakdown of what was covered in that session, what progress was made and what needs to be worked on. This overview has been very helpful in keeping us, his parents informed with our son's tutoring. Luke's approach is very welcoming and instantly put our son at ease, which allowed him to be receptive to his suggestions and guidance. We have seen a nice progress with our son since his sessions with Luke have started. Luke gets a high recommendation.
