I am a philosopher who has recently completed a PhD program in ancient philosophy at UC San Diego, where I am currently teaching. I’m passionate about philosophy, ancient history, literature, and writing, and I love sharing my passion with other people. Naturally I can tutor students in any philosophical subject, and I’m also able to work with history, literature, and writing – as well as some crafting hobbies.

I spent two years as a writing tutor at UC Santa Barbara, and I have spent three more years teaching undergraduate writing – as well as great literary works – at UC San Diego as a teaching assistant in the Revelle college writing program. I am experienced teaching college students of diverse skill levels and subjects, including ESL students. I can help college students hone their writing, and help younger students develop the writing skills they’ll need to succeed in the future.

I have considerable experience teaching students how to write argumentative essays; I have been a writing tutor at UCSB and a writing instructor at UCSD. I can help students in any area proofread their work, analyze their own arguments, and work on flow and essay construction. I am familiar with a wide range of literary periods, and am particularly comfortable teaching ancient literature (including the Bible), medieval literature, Shakespeare, and 19th century literature.

My particular area of specialization is ancient Greek and Roman philosophy, but I am also able to teach ancient Greek and Latin language, literature, and history. I have experience teaching classics as UCSD, where I have taught my own classes in ancient philosophy and been a teaching assistant for ancient and medieval literature courses. I am also able to teach the Bible as an ancient work, and have experience teaching both the Hebrew Bible and New Testament.

I can teach basic knitting skills, basic cross stitch, and reasonably advanced crochet techniques. I can supply tools and patterns to start a beginner off in any of these skills. I particularly enjoy teaching how to crochet stuffed animals and dolls, and can show students how to personalize their own gifts for friends and family members. I can also help students learn how to cross stitch custom messages in a wide variety of fonts.

I have been knitting and doing cross stitch for around ten years, and crocheting for around seven. I have spent several years in a crochet club regularly teaching new members how to crochet, read patterns, and create projects such as scarves, gloves, and stuffed animals. I can teach several embroidery stitches, including cross stitch, satin stitch, chain stitch, and stem stitch, and show students how to put together monograms or cross stitch personalized text. For knitting, I can teach the knit stitch, purl stitch, increases and decreases, and cabling technique. Knitting projects could include scarves, hats, and patterned pot holders.
