About Madeleine

Bio

Hi I'm Madeleine! I am a PhD candidate studying Physical Oceanography (the physics of the ocean) at a world-renowned ocean research institution. I decided to become an oceanographer because of my love for the ocean and my desire to help protect the oceans and coasts for future generations. While tutoring I try to foster a student’s interest in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields and help them develop a desire to learn more about the world around them.

I have a BS in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Brown University and a MS in Applied Ocean Science from University of California, San Diego. I have professional experience in civil engineering and research.

I have tutored middle-school through college-aged students in various science and math subjects. Through my engineering and physics backgrounds, I am extremely well-versed in math from the elementary level through differential equations. I like to help students gain a concrete understanding of the fundamentals while simultaneously motivating them with real-world application examples.

As an oceanographer and engineer I have extensively studied biology, chemistry, environmental science, earth science, computer science, and physics. I love breaking down complex problems into easily digestible bits so students can gain understanding and confidence as they work toward the final solution. I am passionate about helping girls (and boys) develop an interested in STEM fields. I volunteer to run science outreach programs aimed at getting middle and high school students interested in careers in STEM by introducing them to acting scientists and performing interactive experiments.

I am always easy to reach and will respond quickly. My goal is to leave students feeling empowered with the confidence to tackle any problem in the subject at hand. Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson!
