UMBC (University of Maryland, Baltimore County) (Music Education)
Hello! My name is Emily. I moved to San Diego this summer and live downtown. I graduated from college in May (Summa Cum Laude) from University of Maryland, Baltimore County with a Bachelor of Arts in Instrumental Music Education, Instrumental Music Performance, a minor in Psychology, and a certificate in Education. I am currently working towards getting my California single subject teaching credential in music.
I have seven years' teaching experience. I taught private flute lessons, group flute lessons, and band. I have taught in a one-on-one setting, the Maryland Public School System, a private school, an extracurricular music program, summer camps, and have been an undergraduate teaching assistant.
As I have two degrees in music, I have taken many music classes, including 4 semesters of Musicianship, 5 semesters of Music Theory, 4 Semesters of Piano, 2 Semesters of Music History, and a Cultural Music Class.
I would love to hear from you! If you need some help with your music classes, I'm your girl! Please contact me to set up a tutoring session. :) Hello! My name is Emily. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified to tutor in the area of general music first because I have two music degrees (Instrumental Music Education and Instrumental Music Performance; Bachelors of Arts). Also, I have experience weaving general music into my teaching curriculum as I have taught middle school band, flute classes, and private flute tutoring. General music is the foundation to all of these courses, so I am experienced in introducing students to general music concepts.
First, I am qualified to teach Music History because I have taken two music history courses as part of my degree programs in college, tracing the history of music from gregorian chant to the modern day. Second, I have taught music history in my middle school band class in the Maryland Public School System. Third, I received the Undergraduate Research Award (University of Maryland, Baltimore County) to support a year long music history project (the unique contributions of the flutist William Kincaid to the formation of the American Flute School). Additionally, I also completed a music history research project investigating the composition of Hector Berlioz's Symphony Fantastique.
