I have worked in the field of education since the age of 15.
My first job was an aide to the director of an after school program where I worked with students in K-5. As I progressed into my teenage years, I began working as a Teachers Assistant in an after school program at the middle school level. Upon studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain, I taught English as a Second Language at the university level and later, assumed the position of Adjunct Professor at the high school level.
Upon returning to UCLA to complete my studies, I worked as a Research Assistant. My assignment was to observe after school programs throughout LA County and rate the quality of each program. Many of the programs I observed were poor quality and I felt disheartened. Students received little guidance, staff members were ill equipped, and enrichment often consisted of mediocre activities. I deeply believe in the importance of keeping education fun, creative and engaging therefore, was inspired to create my own company in Austin, TX.
My company specialized in teaching robotics, coding and 3D printing. We held a spring and summer break camp and each was very successful. I found however that I missed the ocean a bit too much so I returned to San Diego last year and have been working as a private tutor ever since. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have spent my entire adult life working with elementary aged children. I have taught everything from reading & writing to math & robotics. I have also worked with various groups of children, from under privileged youth to the most affluent. I understand that each child is unique and I am able to cater to his or her particular learning style. I take pride in working with children and I make the learning process fun and engaging.
