About Lola

Hi! Thank you for your time and consideration. I'm a Mechanical Engineer (graduated Cum Laude from the University of Massachusetts). I was a tutor and instructor all through college and absolutely loved it! Over my four years as a tutor, I worked with over 150 students 1-on-1. As a TA, I held study sessions for over 300 students, and as a supplemental instructor I held weekly classes, which were attended by dozens of regular students. I love finding that one example or explanation that helps a student really understand a concept and have that "a-ha!" moment.

I've tutored everything from Calculus to Probability and Statics, from Statics to Strength of Materials. I believe what makes me a good tutor is my ability to explain a concept multiple ways, finding different examples to suit the student I am working with. I understand people learn in very different ways and it is up to the tutor to adapt to the student's learning patterns, not the other way around.

I've always loved Math and Physics. My grandmother was a very strict math teacher; she would always check my homework and help me when I didn't understand. I developed a very strong math foundation at a young age and kept building on top of it. Add to that four year of engineering courses, and I'm left with some very solid math skills! As a tutor, I help students with everything from calculus to trig to statistics. As for physics, my dad was a mechanical engineer so I was always really good at physics. As a tutor, I help students with everything from projectile motion to strength of materials.

I just love to watch students wrap their minds around new concept! Learning is such an interesting process and I love help people truly understand and own new concepts and build off of those.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I tutored Algebra all through college to both high school and college level students. I love tutoring Algebra I because having a strong foundation in algebra is so important in order to do well in Algebra II and Calculus.

Algebra 2

I tutored Algebra all through college to both high school and college level students. I love tutoring Algebra II because having a strong foundation in algebra is so important in order to do well in all following math courses such as Calculus.

Calculus

I tutored Calculus all through college to both high school and college level students. I love tutoring Calculus because it is so important for so many following courses, such a Differential Equations. It's also extremely important for many engineering courses, such as Strength of Materials or Thermodynamics.

Elementary Math

I tutored Elementary Math all through high school. I love tutoring Elementary math because being comfortable with number and enjoy math is so important for children do to well in all following classes such as Geometry and Algebra.

French

I was born and raised in France! I speak French fluently and can easily switch back and forth. I enjoying tutoring conversational skills, since when you visit a French-speaking country you'll have to talk to people!

Physics

As part of my mechanical engineering curriculum I took Physics I, Physics II, Statics, Dynamics, and Strength of Materials, which are all different aspects of physics. I did well in all these courses and enjoy tutoring them. I particularly enjoy tutoring kinematics, motion, projectile motion, forces, momentum, static equilibrium, pulleys, torque, trusses.

Prealgebra

I tutored PreAlgebra since college to both high school and college level students. I love tutoring PreAlgebra because have a strong foundation in Algebra is so important for doing well in all following classes, such as Calculus.

Precalculus

I tutored PreCalculus all through college to both high school and college level students. I love tutoring PreCalc because have a strong foundation in PreCalc is so important for doing well in Calculus and all the following courses, such a Differential Equations

Study Skills

Three of my four grandparents are teachers. As I young child, I would spend every Saturday at their house, doing homework for the upcoming week. As a senior in high school I studied for the french baccalaureate. This exam includes five 4-hour exams
(math, physics, chemistry, biology and french) and five 3-hour exams (history, geography, English, Spanish and philosophy). This exam takes place over the course of one week, with one 4-hour exam every morning and one 3-hour exam every afternoon. I studied for this exams for 6 weeks straight. I passed this exam with honors. After that, I went on and received a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering, also with honors. I have been studying my entire life, literally.
As a high school teacher, my job is not only to teach my students the material they need to know, but also give them the skills to study efficiently, which they will need in college.
