About Eric

Greetings! My name is Eric Colona, and I am tutor for virtually any student in grades K-12, ASVAB, SAT, and GED. I work to help any High School, Middle School or Elementary student who either needs extra assistance or desires private tutoring in order to get ahead. I am able to teach almost any subject, depending upon the grade level. Helping other people has always been a major passion of mine, and I am very pleased that I have the opportunity to pass on my knowledge and skills to others!

I earned my Bachelor’s degree in a Psychology, with a special focus on how people learn and acquire new information. I have also attended many graduate seminars focusing on education, which have provided me with a strong understanding on how to tutor students most effectively. Since completing my schooling, I have spent nearly two decades as an educator, and I have tutored students in every grade from K-12, as well as some college students.

The subjects I teach are dependent upon the grade level of the student. For High School students and younger, I offer tutoring services in Reading, Language Arts, English, Essay Writing, Social Studies, History, Geography, Psychology, Biology, Chemistry and Test Preparation. Some of my biggest accomplishments as a tutor have been helping High School students achieve high scores on important standardized tests, such as the GED, SAT / ACT, ASVAB, and helping them get accepted into their top college choices.

For Middle School students and younger, I will also teach Math, including basic Algebra and Geometry. Additionally, I will tutor College Students who need assistance in Psychology or general Essay Writing. In general, I feel pretty comfortable tutoring almost any sort of subject to any sort of student, so please do not hesitate to ask me if you need tutoring in a subject that I did not list. As long as I have access to a textbook and online resources, I can usually help a student learn new material quite effectively.

My favorite aspect of tutoring is watching my students succeed and overcome obstacles. I find it extremely rewarding whenever a student tells me how they improved their grades, aced a test, passed the GED, got into the military, or got accepted into their favorite college. Moments like these are one-of-kind, and there’s no better feeling than knowing the student I helped accomplished their goals. As a tutor, I do everything I can to ensure the success of my students.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been a substitute teacher since 1997, I have more than 19 years of experience in the field of teaching. I have had many long term assignments in K-6 and I have taught hundreds of lessons in K-6 including all levels of Elementary Math, Science, Grammar, Reading, Writing, and Social Studies. My degree is in Psychology with an emphasis on learning and an additional 20 graduate credits in Education.

Elementary Math

Taught every level of elementary math over the past 19 years.

Phonics

My first long term assignment was taking over a Kindergarten class from a teacher that had a nervous breakdown. 17 of the students could not read and I had 3 months to make sure they did in addition to making sure they were caught up on everything else. By the end of the three months, I was proud that they could all read at the required level.

Study Skills

I have covered many AVID, College Prep, College Success, Study Skills courses.
