About Brian

I have many years of both traditional classroom teaching experience and nontraditional teaching in the field. I have taught and tutored across most fields of science and math. This includes Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry, Physics, and Algebra through Calculus. On a graduate level I excel in Philosophy, Theology and Law.

My experience developing classes in the field and having my own one room schoolhouse has taught me to be extremely flexible and resourceful. I have learned that given the right tools and direction students are capable of astounding things when allowed to do some self-directed exploring.

I am also very interested in guiding your junior and senior high students toward excellence in both character and academics.

As students discover the world they live in through experiential courses they learn a valuable lesson about themselves. They realize they are connected to everyone and everything around them. I drive this lesson home helping students see that even the simplest act can have wide ranging repercussions. Ultimately students learn to respect themselves and the world around them.

Whether I’m designing and running an outdoor educational program or in the classroom, I rely heavily on the discovery model and creating teams of students to explore each carefully designed learning unit. I ensure that each unit incorporates what was just learned, reinforces core ideas and suggests where we will be going next. I am also a team player and work with teachers in other disciplines, such as the English department, to incorporate the tools they are learning there into the lesson plan.

I can help you achieve success in whatever discipline you require. Let's get started on building the best you can be!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Biology

I have taught Biology in the classroom for many years and also in the field in the Madidi Rain Forest in Bolivia. I understand the basic concepts as well as the finer details of living organisms, classification, ecology and complete living systems. I am also expert in marine systems as well as terrestrial.
