About Alexis

I am interested in teaching/tutoring tomorrow's leaders and innovators.

My previous duty in the military was as an instructor at the Department of Defense's only medical school. I was a combat medic by trade, but employed my prowess by teaching leadership, communication, tactics, applied physiology, and combat medicine to future doctors of medicine. My position was particularly unique; although I was the instructor, my students were commissioned officers -- and therefore outranked me. This was crucial as professionalism and tact were paramount on campus.

I have played guitar on a recreational basis for about 12 years, self taught. I have taught basic guitar principles to about 25 proteges over the past 8 years. I teach guitar selection, strumming/picking techniques, the major scale, all major/minor/7th chords, and close out with 3 simple songs. My practice has evolved into a two hour session, where students can play 2 childhood songs and the intro to 'Crazy Train.'

I have always loved teaching, and recently discovered my passion for mathematics. I was originally going to school for biochemistry, but once I took Calculus-1, I switched majors and am now one class (art) from an AS in Mathematics. I am, already, enrolled in a BS in Computer Science program.

I am absolutely inspired by the impact teachers and tutors have, and the insurmountable feeling of satisfaction when someone fully grasps a concept.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Great at tutoring.

Alexis tutored me throughout two levels of math and I wouldn't have passed either of them without his help. His tutoring took a lot of the stress out of taking challenging math classes. He was great at teaching math to someone who doesn't understand math as well as he does -- he explained things very clearly and at at a level that I was able to comprehend. He was very patient in his tutoring and
