I work closely with students to identify their specific needs in order to provide an ideal learning environment so that they can excel. I am a Reading Specialist with a PhD in Linguistics. I also hold a Master's in Linguistics and a B.A. in Spanish, Latin American Literature and History. I have extensive experience working as a reading instructor, Spanish teacher, ESL instructor & linguistics professor. I also specialize with students who have an array of learning issues including, ADHD, ADD, and students who are on the autism spectrum. I am fluent in both English and Spanish.

For reading instruction I utilize an interactive constructivist methodology designed to help student eliminate even the most severe reading problems - including dyslexia. I offer long-term solutions to difficult reading problems. I have 10+ years experience working as an education consultant. Seven of those years were spent working extensively throughout the United States setting up reading programs in K-12 and college level education settings. As part of this work, I have trained teachers and teaching assistants to specialize in the use of this reading methodology for the compete elimination of students' reading problems. This same methodology can also be applied to English language learners for the acquisition of English.

I am available to work with you (or your child) to improve your study & organizational skills. I can focus in on specialized tutoring in reading, Spanish, English or linguistics. If you need help eliminating ANY reading problem or just want to improve your reading speed and comprehension - I can make reading much easier for you. I am available to tutor you in basic to advanced level Spanish, and I can work with you on your acquisition of English, where we can focus on basic to advanced skills and/or business English. I also can work with you to revise cover letters or drafts of grant proposals and application materials for employment and undergraduate & graduate school.

Personable, methodical, patient

Justin is personable and methodical (even marks pauses in reading on the page). A command of phonics and individual words alone doesn't make for smooth reading evidently, and Justin is patient enough (even with a third grader and his parents) to both challenge and work through challenges. (His own background is also very impressive!)

Kind, knowledgeable tutor

Justin was very kind and kid-friendly with my seven year old grandson. He explained the purpose of tutoring and was very positive during the hour. He performed an initial assessment and they began reading various books at the correct level. We have more tutoring planned and I am anxious to see progress over the summer.
