I am a credentialed teacher with experience teaching students at the elementary, middle, high school and adult levels. I have a passion for helping students reach their highest academic potential. Once students see the power they gain when mastering a skill they are proud and eager to learn more. My enjoyment comes from knowing I have made a difference in my students ability to do well academically. Students are then able to apply those skills to other areas in their lives.
Teaching is an honorable profession. One that I take great pride in having selected as my career. I love teaching and tutoring. Working with students on a one on one basic allows greater time and opportunity to be directed to the individuals needs. It also allows the teacher and student to build a relationship of trust and confidence. When a positive relationship is established between the two, growth and academic movement can occur. It becomes a positive experience for both the student and the teacher.
I have taught students from all backgrounds and ethnicities. Because of the training and academic foundation I have helped students to build they have gone on to do well in other academic areas. Many have graduated and decided to further their education and attend community or four year colleges. I am happy when they see me or notify me that they are doing well and politely recognize me as a contributing factor in their success. It makes me feel proud and validated in my efforts to continue working with students who have an interest to learn how to improve their English, reading and writing skills.
As a credentialed teacher I had to study and pass the CBEST exam for the state of California. I have successfully taught other future teachers to study and pass the exam as well. The idea of having the pass this exam can be intimidating to teachers, as it is a requirement to substitute teach or to get hired by a school district to work in the classroom. Since I have had to take the exam, I have first hand knowledge what needs to be focused on. I can guide them through the process in hope of alleviating the anxiety associated with taking the test.
I look forward to working with students who are interested in having a positive experience learning to improve the English, Reading, Writing, or test taking skills. I individualize lessons to accommodate individual learning styles. While keeping the lessons creative and challenging, as to wart off boredom. This is a fast paced world we live in and students need to be given lessons that hold their interest, while helping them learn and reach their academic goals. Can't wait to hear from my first student, so we can get busy making you as "smart as you want to be". Regards, Ms. P. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
