I am a self-proclaimed science nerd that has been captivated by biology since watching Discovery Health as a child. I loved my life science and biology classes (and teachers!), and this led to me majoring in biology in college. I declared myself pre-med and had plans to go to medical school, but some shadowing and self-reflection, and also a career and personality assessment, resulted in me choosing to pursue teaching. While in college, I tutored at the on-campus tutorial center, and my appointments there only reinforced my desire to become a teacher. I also did undergraduate summer research before my senior year, and it was an incredible time to advance my laboratory skills as well as think of science as the ever evolving, exciting subject it is, not a pre-recorded and stagnant set of material written in textbooks.

I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2014, and shortly thereafter I landed a position as a research technician related to the research I had done the summer previous. I studied retinal degenerative diseases under the direction of some incredibly talented scientists. During this time, I continued my education by taking my credential and master's courses to become a teacher. I then applied for and accepted a teaching position at a small private school. These first few months of having my own classes (life science, biology, anatomy/physiology) have been extremely rewarding and challenging. The one that that stays true is my passion to help others break science down into digestible pieces and grasp concepts that are traditionally "scary" and overwhelming.

I graduated with honors for my biology degree, and I was a consistent overachiever in college. I wasn't satisfied until the concept was totally clear in my mind, and I would work to not only know my material but have a conceptual grasp as well. My hands-on experience as a technician made my degree come to life in a whole new way. Because of this, I have an understanding of biology, its applications, and the nature of science that gives me a big-picture and real-life approach to course material.

I look forward to working with you as a team to help you succeed in your studies!
