About Danlu

I value different experiences of sharing and learning. I was working as a part-time English tutor back to China while I was also a full time journalist on local TV. Majoring in broadcasting provided me with a good opportunity of practicing my Mandarin as well as understanding Chinese culture deeply. After I came to the States, I had one year of volunteering experience of being a Chinese tutor in library equipped me the skill of interacting and sharing my experience of learning a new language. I initiated a study group among people with different ages who wanted to know more about Chinese and Chinese culture, and I was rewarded by the experience of tutoring as well as the ability of empathy.

Tutoring is a process of sharing experience, knowledge, and making connections. Learning a new language is also an experience of exploring a different culture. It is a great opportunity for a tutor and learner to explore together. The age group that I have had to work with includes children, adults, and seniors. Both one-on-one and group is work for me.

As a journalist and an anchor in local TV back to China, I gained the certification of Mandarin which is called: Mandarin Proficiency Test certificates:1st grade, B level. Volunteering in Carnegie Library as a Chinese tutor for one year.

I am looking forward to hearing from you and I can share my learning experience and knowledge about Mandarin and Chinese culture with you. Let's making the study fun!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chinese

I was teaching Mandarin for one year in Carnegie Library as a volunteer. From my experience, introducing culture and the difference between China and America is a good way to inspire students to learn Mandarin. Mostly, Chinese websites are my teaching resources, and I am also sensitive about the most popular terms in Chinese which can be very useful if you are interested in visiting China. For Children who want to learn Chinese, I always introduce them interesting activities that can represent Chinese culture. Along with some craft making or painting, children usually are motivated to learn Chinese Characters.
