About Calvin

I have been involved in the construction and architecture fields since I was about 15, learning autoCAD in high school with autoCAD R14. On the construction side, I used the opportunity to examine many construction documents from many different offices, mentally saving what I thought were the best ways to draw and detail the information. Before starting in my official architectural undergrad program I worked in a 2 person office for 4 years where I had the opportunity to learn office drawing best practices, and grow them when we upgraded to newer versions of autoCAD.

In school I am known as the person to always go to with any autoCAD questions, and am also the fastest at drawing (I remember in the office I made it up to about 1200 finished lines one day). I can help you with anything autoCAD in 2D, as well as general formatting to create documents that are legible to the layman and tips to make your workflow faster. I am aware of CAD's 3D abilities but never chose to work with them because there are simply other options out there that just do the job better, easier, and faster. This tutoring website does not include options for SketchUp or Rhinoceros, but I am very good in these as well. I can get you started on Grasshopper as well but only with the basics up to some intermediate skills.

I have 4 years' experience working with detailed office standards and lots of opportunity to critique professional and student-peer skills. Experience in assisting other students with autoCAD.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Volleyball

Although I come from a volleyball family and have had ball control essentially since I could walk, my expertise in volleyball is not in the play, but rather the officiating side of the sport. I have been an official for about 8 years reffing middle school, high school, club, college, professional, and international levels of play (though at international events I was restricted to scoring and linejudging). I am rated as a Regional for indoor play and a National for beach volleyball; although I have been told that going for my Junior National indoor patch would be a breeze, I have not pursued it due to still being in school. I have a great understanding of the sport and everyone's role in the game, and am not a "police" style official that tries to catch every fault but instead I work to facilitate a smooth and competitive match.
