About Isaac

Teaching has always been very natural for me. I first started teaching in the place most obvious and immediate: my house. I would help my younger brother and sister with their homework, show my dad how something was built, explain to my mom what that one switch in her car actually does, etc. I had a natural curiosity as a child, which lead me to learn a lot (and get in trouble, A LOT), which then lead me to teach...a lot. This then extended onto high school where I was tutoring high school students (below and above my grade level), friends, and middle school students. I would always get comments from my students that they had never understood something so clearly before, that a concept could be so simple when put in right terms, and that learning can be easy and fun! For me, teaching is extremely rewarding, especially when your student succeeds.

Based on my degree from UCSD (Maj. Human Bio/Min. Chemistry), I mainly specialize in life sciences such as Biology, Chemistry and subsets of these disciplines i.e. Physiology (please note that I do not teach anatomy, and that these two subjects are not interchangeable), Genetics, etc. These are my main academic focuses. I am also extremely proficient in other subjects such as Math (up to Calc. I), English and Literature.

From my education at UCSD, I have become very well versed in these subjects and have also practiced these disciplines first hand in laboratory settings. The best way to teach science sometimes is to ask, "so how does this apply in the real world?" because most of time abstract concepts are just vague and don't say anything. By drawing the line between what happens in the real world and what is being said on the pages of a text book, I have found this to be the most effective way to teach any science.

I take pride in my work. I will do my absolute best to show up prepared to work with the necessary materials. If you find that you are not completely satisfied with my services, then the session is free. Feedback is much appreciated so I know what I need to improve on to serve you better.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you succeed in your studies!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
