About Zach

As an instructor I have a broad set of experiences both in terms of subject matter, group size, and age of students. My first teaching experience came at the University of Kansas as a college algebra instructor and tutor. Each semester I had a class of approximately 20 students and tutored roughly 10 hours a week. The majority of this tutoring was one-on-one; however, when it proved advantageous, I would tutor small groups of 3-4 students. Later in my undergraduate degree, I led a student bridge design competition team at KU. A large part of that role was teaching, tutoring, and mentoring group members on steel bridge design and engineering problem solving. After my undergraduate degree, I taught ski lessons at Keystone. I primarily worked with guests from ages 14 to 60+, but also taught a couple of weekend programs with children ages 5-11. Class size varied anywhere from a one-on-one to 10 students. As a result of my varied teaching experiences, I have worked with students with a wide variety of personalities, learning styles, and interest levels in the subject being taught. Through this broad background, I have honed teaching techniques that are effective across mediums and specialized approaches for specific topics. I constantly draw upon these experiences when adapting a lesson to an individual.

What I love most about tutoring is facilitating a student's independent success. For me this comes in several steps, which are all gratifying. First, I get to see students feel excitement as they realize they can do something that they previously thought they could not. I enjoy sharing the learning tools that I have used throughout my life so that students can more effectively learn on their own. Also, it is very rewarding when a student develops confidence in their own skills as they experience more and more success.

Throughout my teaching, tutoring, and coaching experiences, I have consistently received positive feedback. Typically the feedback attributes positive results to a combination of personality traits and teaching approach. I believe that strategic outcomes also contribute to students' success. All in all, my calm and encouraging demeanor combined with targeted teaching techniques and a background in academic success provide a positive and efficient learning experience.

I look forward to hearing from you, so that we can set up a tutoring appointment. I am available from 9am - 9pm on weekdays and from 9am - 6pm on weekends.

Cheers!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. Extremely helpful — Zach was a great tutor for my niece Vanessa, he was very thorough and it was very helpful for her to explain things back to him to make sure she had a clear understanding of the material. Zach gave Vanessa test taking tips and strategies, which was new to her; this quite useful info for her in prepping for PSAT. We will definitely be using Zach's services again. ...
