About Jeff

I was a teacher from 1988-2001, and for preschool to HS students, including several years as a Special Education teacher. In May 2001, I returned to my first career of choice flying with the USAF, and then retired in 2008, with 33 years of service. I have been a Disney photographer since 2009.

I am a grandfather of four youngsters (3, 5, 7, & 9), and a father of three adult kids; a grocery clerk, an accountant, and a third year law student. I own a small ranch in northern California. My wife is a RN at the VA Hospital in SD.

I have an inactive/expired CA Multi-Subject and Special Education Credentials. My favorite students were forth/fifth graders. I taught preschool for three years and Special Ed for 6 years. I know how to teach with a developmental focus. I start with what the student knows and then build on that.

I am a Professional Photographer and use Lightroom in my workflow. I have been using it since the beginning, for more than 12 years.

I studied photography at Sonoma State University and was an award winning B&W photographer in the mid 80s. Digital cameras came along and I started working with Photoshop CS2, in 2003. I have taken several classes in PS from Santa Rosa Jr College, and finally in May 2014, I took the Adobe Certified Expert Photoshop exam and passed. I am also trained in InDesign and have some training in Web/Graphic Design.

If we meet and I can't help you improve your subject of choice, or either of us feel the teacher/pupil is not a good fit then we part ways. And you can find someone that works better for you. I will not teach you how to crawl when you can already walk. In other words I am not going to waste your time or money if i can't help you improve.

I am looking forward to helping you learn the subject of your choice. Contact me today.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Lightroom

I have been a LR user since Lightroom started. I am an ACE in PS CC since May 2014.

Adobe Photoshop

I am an Adobe Certified Expert in Photoshop CC as of May 2014.

Elementary (K-6th)

I was a CA Credentialed Multiple-Subject (SSU,edu) teacher in 1988-2004.
I also held a Special Education Credential (NU,edu) from 1995-2004. I stopped teaching in June 2001, so I could return to flying in the USAF. I made the decision to not renew the credentials when I retired from the USAF in 2008. After moving to San Diego I decided I wanted to work as a photographer for Disney and in August 2009, that dream became true.

I passed the CBEST (CA required test) in 1986, and the NTE in 1988. I home schooled my youngest daughter (a third year law student BTW she will complete in two years) and she works for the SD Public Defenders Office as an intern.

Elementary Math

I was an elementary teacher for 13 years. My kids were excellent in math because I empowered them to learn and enjoy their knowledge.

For 6 years of the 13, I was a special education teacher. So I have a developmental approach to teaching. Start with what they know and build from there.

Macintosh

I have been a Mac owner since 2010, when my PC crashed while I was taking classes online and had a Graphics History class where using InDesign was a requirement and I had to learn InD and Mac at the same time. I can still use a PC but many of the things I knew how to do have faded.

Photography

I studied ART Photography from 85-89 at Sonoma State University and was an award winning B&W photographer. When I switched to digital it took a little bit of time to master the new way of photography but finally I was able to do so. I have been employed by Disney as a photographer since Aug 2009, with no desire to quit anytime soon.

I have also studied Photography at San Diego City College from 2008-2010, under the watchful eyes of Professor David King.

I am an Adobe Certified Expert In Photoshop CC. I love photography and I am as I have been told many times "awesome."

Excellent demeanor, followed up after each lesson with tips related to the lesson. Solid experience with Lightroom; also was clear when he did not know the answer. No BS, just the facts. I am an advanced user and have no patience for BS or overconfidence that is unwarranted. He also referred me to sources for keyword lists and other helpful items. .
