I have been tutoring for nearly 10 years, ranging from Adult Basic Education to college-level Physics and Mathematics. I am beginning graduate studies in Physics at UC San Diego in the Fall of 2015. I recently graduated from SUNY at Buffalo with highest honors in Applied Mathematics and Physics. I was chosen as the Outstanding Senior in the Physics Department.

As a child, I was gifted in mathematics, but not much else. I can understand the frustration a student feels when something just does not click in their head. My journey in overcoming my own difficulties in the classroom environment motivates me to share my methods with others like me.

I graduated with a 4.0 in mathematics at my undergraduate institution. From algebra to calculus and differential equations to higher mathematics, I have experience with virtually all undergraduate math courses. I also have experience with mathematical computation, using languages like Python and Mathematica to carry out my research.

I was the Chapter President of the Society of Physics Students at my undergraduate institutions, which required me to organize tutoring services. I have tutored many physics courses. I continue to pursue a Ph.D. in Physics, so I am very knowledgeable about many aspects of the discipline.

I am more than willing to tailor my tutoring services to your needs. Perhaps you are having trouble grasping concepts, working out solutions to problems, or just want your B to become an A, we can create a plan that works for you!

GRE

GRE

I have received a perfect score on the quantitative section of the GRE (170), and 160 on the verbal section. I also have taken the Physics GRE. I received a score of 880 (out of 990), placing me in the 83 percentile.

Computer

General Computer,

General Computer

I use multiple computers in my daily life. I prefer my MacBook Pro, but have a laptop that runs Ubuntu and Windows 7 and 10. I am also a Raspberry Pi hobbyist, so I know a great deal about Linux. I can also assist in integrating your other devices with your computer (e.g. iPhone, iPad, etc.).
Macintosh,

Macintosh

I have been a Mac user since 2012. I have integrated many Apple products into my life, using them in conjunction with my Mac OS: iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Time Capsule, and Apple TV. I also have experience with all of the native application on a Mac OS, including using the Terminal application for more advanced work.
Mathematica

Mathematica

I have used Mathematica for 2+ years of research in Physics. I mainly use it for its ability to numerically solve coupled differential equations. I also have experience with plotting techniques necessary for extrapolating information from numerical data in Mathematica. These techniques were essential in creating figures for my publications in Physics.

Calculus,

Calculus

I have completed the entire undergraduate calculus sequence, along with a multivariable calculus course. I received A's in all of the courses. Literally, I apply calculus daily to my physics education and research.

Differential Equations,

Differential Equations

Differential Equations are at the heart of many topics in Physics, so as a Physics student I am very familiar with them. I have taken courses in Differential Equations and Partial Differential Equations. Also, I have taken two Mathematical Physics courses, which covered many topics in Differential Equations. I have experience solving such systems numerically, too.
Linear Algebra,

Linear Algebra

I received an A in college-level Linear Algebra. I also use it quite often in application, because Physics relies on the techniques heavily (e.g. eigenvalues, systems of equations, etc.). I can assist in learning the subject from a mathematical point of view and from the its applications in science.
Mathematica,

Exactly what I needed.

He solved my problems and educated me on how to reduce them in the future. He provided my good tips and references for me. I will definitely use him again for the next level of help.

In-Depth Explanations of Specific Questions

Whenever I did have specific questions, Sean was able to answer them and explain them. He introduced me to equations I didn't know that were necessary for the homework problems (physics).

Kelly, 4 lessons with Sean

awesome! clear detail

He really broke the problems down step by step for me and was very clear on explaining the concepts! He really clarified and answered all the questions i needed for math 20B ( calculus 2)

Extremely Knowledgeable and Patient

Fantastic first session! My son has been struggling with Calculus and Sean’s teaching style is a great match to the way my son learns! He really took the time to make sure he understood the material before moving on.

Concise and Extremely Knowledgeable

I have a Differential Equations midterm this week and I came to Sean with a pretty difficult task. Knowing nothing of the subject I asked him to help me learn the material required to pass the midterm. Sean was able to start from scratch and quickly go through everything I needed with ease. Can't recommend his teaching style enough!

Patient and Understanding

Sean is a great listener and knows all concept of my daughter's AP Calculus problems. He's straight to the point and doesn't waste time. It took less than an hour for her to learn the concept.

Excellent Math tutor

Sean was an excellent tutor for my daughter at UCSD for Calculus 20b. He was able to explain and teach to her what her own professor could not. I highly recommend him.

Awesome!

Extremely knowledgeable! Helped tremendously with my college calculus class. Broke it down and made it understandable! I wish all of my professors explained things so well.

Melissa, 3 lessons with Sean

Knowledgeable. Offers good explanations.

Sean is engaging and has a thorough knoweldge of the Calculus text book. He's willing to explain concepts more than once if needed. He can pick out the key points of a chapter to keep you on the right track without straying from the big ideas. I'd recommend Sean to anyone taking a course that includes Calculus.

Very Knowledgeable

I was so lost in differential equations but within an hour Sean had me on track and feeling more confident with the material. Sean made a topic I thought I'd never get and made it seem easy. Best money I've ever spent!
