University of California, San Diego (Mathematics)
I am currently an instructor with a math tutoring company here in San Diego and I work with the Poway Unified School District as a volunteer math tutor. I am currently majoring in mathematics while concurrently getting a teaching credential. I have worked as an educator and trainer for the past five years. I worked internationally as well as here in the States with a wide variety of people covering many ages and skill sets during my time with a nonprofit organization. I was also a lead trainer for two years with the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf.
My mathematical qualifications include subjects from elementary mathematical reasoning (counting, grouping, etc.), high school and college algebra, and algebraic reasoning (common core), calculus, up to discrete and linear algebra. I have worked with students of every grade and level of strength in mathematics.
My goal for every student is to get them to the point where they can be comfortable with the math that they are learning. If the student is uncomfortable with the subject it is difficult for them to retain key concepts. I like setting goals for the student during a session so that the subject matter can be presented clearly and concisely. If they are struggling, it is key to find where the they have gaps in foundational knowledge and fill those gaps so that they can get back to their education. Very nice young man.my son liked him said he was very patient and gave him great advice! Looking forward to more sessions with him.he seems very knowledgeable when it comes to ASVAB which is what we were looking for. Thanks again
Youngkun came to my son's aid the week before finals and helped him understand pre-calculus and filled in the gaps that he was missing and saved his GPA. My son really enjoys working with him and we plan to continue working with Youngkun on a regular schedule as necessary.
First time having a tutor help my son with core math, and Youngkun did an excellent job! My son was happily talking about what he learned 20min after Youngkun left (A first in our household).
Youngkun is extremely knowledgeable in math. He was able to help me with my homework lesson even before I had read the textbook. He breaks down the material in layman's terms so you are able to comprehend the material. Highly recommended!
The test review and chapter review was important for our student. We are impressed with his patience and calm instruction.
Knowledgeable, easy going and makes kids comfortable. I liked his style of teaching and worked well for my child. He reviewed the chapter and concepts in a way that my daughter could do the homework math problems herself!
My son loves working with Youngkun. He explains it very well and always helps them understand the equation. Couldn't have asked for a Geometry 2 tutor!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Working as a volunteer tutor in the K-12 system, algebra, at all levels, is the subject I work with the most. I have taught algebraic reasoning and dealt with common core word problems with students at a variety of ages. Working step by step to ensure a correct answer is key to this mathematic subject and that is an area in which I have extensive experience. As a mathematics major, my classes deal with algebra concepts and understanding the mathematic concepts we deal with has been paramount to my successes.
I passed the ASVAB with high line scores and I maxed out my overall score for the combined score. This allows me the freedom to choose from multiple positions that I am qualified to have. I have worked with many students on both portions and my techniques have helped get non-passing pre-ASVAB scores to passing to well above expectations and minimum requirements.
I have studied calculus extensively for the past three years. Precalculus was the foundation for all of the concepts that we dealt with. During studies, we deal with these concepts on a daily basis. At work, these concepts are discussed and taught to multiple student working to master different levels of understanding. I see these concepts daily and work toward having students understand concepts completely. Previously, I received a five on the AP Calculus AB test.
