I have been teaching and tutoring students for many years. My background is in History and Math. I also have a Certificate in College Counseling. I enjoy helping students understand history, English and primarily Math. In math I help students to connect their previous knowledge with the lessons they are currently doing. I work on reducing their math anxiety by showing them that the rules they learned in elementary school apply to higher level math. I also try to associate their math problems with things that they are familiar with.

In history I help them to see how history is relevant to problems in the world today. I help them connect old and ancient lands with today’s geography so they can understand the cultures of the regions. Together we delve into the socio-political history of a region and how it has an effect on the socio-political issues of today.

In English, I help them to construct good sentences and paragraphs. I teach students how to research a paper, cite the works used, and write a very good term paper.

As a college counselor, I assist students in preparing for college tests, finding a good college for their needs, and applying for colleges. I have helped students be admitted to University of Southern California, University of Michigan, San Diego State University, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and other colleges.

I have tutored students for the SAT, ACT, GED, and the CAHSPE. My experience with standardized tests is that there is a technique for scoring well as well as knowledge of content. Students need to learn how to take the test in order to raise their score. I show them techniques for taking the test as well as refreshing them on test content.
