About Christopher

As a high school English teacher closing in on my 20th year as an educator, I continue to love helping students to thrive as emerging academics. With an early background in middle school English and an edifying stint at a continuation school, coupled with more recent experience as a high school English 9, Creative Writing, Journalism, and A.P. English Language and Composition teacher, my teaching experience runs the gamut from tutoring students with special needs to preparing students for the rigors of Advanced Placement testing.

As an experienced teacher, I pride myself in providing students with appropriate guidance and scaffolding that prompts them to experience ownership and control of their learning. As such, I view my role as an educator as a facilitator. Therefore, I'm tasked with providing strategies, tools, and encouragement so that students will learn how to access the subject matter, and, most importantly, be able to demonstrate the skills and knowledge demanded of specific course objectives. I am a perfectionist by nature and expect my students to pursue the best in all of their efforts.

Appreciating that young families have busy remarkably busy schedules, I will remain flexible regarding scheduled tutoring times. If a student only has time to meet after a late practice, rehearsal, or job, then so be it. Though I expect that academics come first, I appreciate that the reality of schedules may push tutoring to late weeknights or early weekend mornings. Whatever works for the student and his/her family works for me.

I look forward to working with you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
