Math:

ACT Math,
Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT math covers rudimentary topics from middle and high school. Strong understanding of these topics have been necessary for success in proceeding math courses. My job especially requires me to know these topics well enough to teach them to a wide range of students with varying knowledge bases.

I started learning algebra in middle school, but I think I took algebra 1 1st year of highschool. Basic algebraic concepts are the building block for all higher math courses. Also, I have strengthened my memory of all these concepts through tutoring.

Like Algebra 1, Algebra 2 is crucial for any other higher math course. I feel my knowledge of Algebra and tutoring metheds for the topic are exemplar. This is because of the practice I've had through schooling plus tutoring.

I have passed Calculus 1-3 with not much trouble, receiving A's and a B. Calculus is fun to tutor because it is surprisingly easy to recall after having a semester. I am very confident in my ability to tutor calculus because I have tutored students in it previously and as time goes on it gets easier to make more thorough and precise explanations.

I like tutoring geometry because its like a game of logic and puzzles to me. Once I can get a student to be comfortable with some of the nomenclature their progress usually skyrockets because I can breakdown the problems and make them fun even. I find geometry is easy to tutor because of its real world applicability.

Prealgebra is actually not the easiest to tutor. Most students I have tutored in prealgebra have some difficulty in math, so the challenge is to break it down to the most simple terms. One skill that I am proud to have acquired is to teach something from a multitude of different aspects, because some ways of thinking just don't click for some people.

Precalculus is basically an extension of Algebra 1 and 2, which I am very comfortable with. I like tutoring precalc because, having taken calculus, I know exactly why certain topics are included in the curriculum. My knowledge of calculus lets me know how to help students learn precalc in a way that will prepare them best for calculus.

Trigonometry is a very integral part of calculus (bu dum tssss), so it has been reinforced a lot to me. Like geometry, there is a bit of nomenclature, and also a lot of memorization. Once you can get a student past that, it can become all fun and games, logic and puzzles.
