Hi! I'm Matt. I have been a graduate student up at the University of California at Davis for several years now, and just recently moved back down to San Diego. I also did my undergraduate degree there as well, in both Physics and Mathematics. From early on in my academic career, I was very interested in particle physics, the science that tells us what we are made of at the most fundamental level. Luckily, Davis afforded me the opportunity to get into research and start helping professors right away. I was also fortunate enough to be able to travel abroad and go to CERN, the Centre Europeane de Recherché Nucleaire, the main location of the Large Hadron Collider to conduct research there. I worked on many different projects there, including one that was looking for the Higgs particle, which was discovered in July of 2012 and brought the theorists who hypothesized it the Nobel Prize in 2013! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
