About Toshikazu

I did not like arithmetic in First or Second grade, but as math became more complex, I began to
enjoy it. This fondness for math lead to my interest in science.

As a result, in college I majored in both Chemistry and Microbiology with a minor equivalent in
Mathematics. The math was required for applying to Chemistry problems so the math was useful to
know, but at the same time I took extra Math classes as a way to boost my GPA.

Subsequently, I attended and completed graduate school with a degree in Chemistry & Biochemistry
with an emphasis in the area of protein structure and function.

After graduate school, I worked as a Research Scientist with various non-profit institutions.

Currently, I consult as an IT, database analyst.

My teaching experience comes from graduate school, where I was required to teach, and through
coaching my children's Math League and Science Olympiad. I have also tutored children in the No
Child Left Behind Program. Surprisingly, I enjoyed these experiences and would like to continue
them.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chemistry

I majored in both Chemistry and Microbiology with a minor equivalent in Mathematics. The math was required for applying to Chemistry related problems, so the math was useful to know, but at the same time I took extra Math classes as a way to boost my GPA.

Subsequently, I attended and completed graduate school with a degree in Chemistry & Biochemistry
with an emphasis in the area of protein structure and function.

After graduate school, I worked as a Research Scientist with various non-profit institutions.

Currently, I consult as an IT, database analyst.

Microsoft Access

I am certified by Microsoft in Access 2007 and am an active board member of San Diego's Access User Group, which meets monthly. My work pertains to creating and maintaining databases with MS Access and with Enterprise and Express versions of SQL Server. In the near future, I hope be certified as an MOS 2007 specialist, MOS 2007 Expert, and SQL Server's T-SQL data analyst.
