I am a California credentialed Teacher born in Padova, a university city in Northern Italy and have been living in San Diego for the past 23 years. I started teaching Italian to my fellow students just for fun when I was in college working through my Bachelor's degree at a New York State University. During that time I so much enjoyed teaching my native language and the culture of my country that I started attending Second Language Acquisitions Seminars, Linguistic classes and ended up in enrolling in the Teaching Credentials program at San Diego State University. I have been a credentialed teacher since 2005.
Since then I have been teaching several subjects in public schools and in private Institutions and schools, but teaching Italian to children and adults alike has been my favorite occupation!
The Italian for Travelers classes that I also teach are very popular and fun; these classes are specifically directed to those students who will be visiting Italy and need to know enough conversational Italian to get around!
In all my classes I use a variety of teaching methods in order to reach every student. My students say that my classes are fun, entertaining, and effective. I am very patient with students of any age or learning ability.
I am a proud recipient of the scholarship “The Art of teaching Italian through Italian Art," a summer seminar at an institute in Rome, sponsored by the N.E.H. (National Endowment for the Humanities).
I look forward to hearing from you!
Arrivederci e a presto! Buongiorno!

Marina is terrific! Obviously, as a native speaker of Italian, she knows her subject, but she also has great interpersonal and teaching skills, as well. She's kind and gentle, and brings really creative materials to the lessons. She assessed what my son knew and didn't knew, and met him at his level. I also loved the materials she used with my son and the fact that she got him to actually converse in Italian. I highly recommend Marina!
Marina is a very patient tutor and is helping me tremendously with learning Italian. I have been taking Italian classes at the ICC and without any background in a second language have struggled with the more advanced classes, falling behind. Marina focuses on getting the basics down - pronunciation, grammar, etc. She has creative lesson plans and makes learning fun. I highly recommend Marina for anyone interested in learning Italian from an excellent teacher and resource.
Marina has the perfect combination of factors that work to help me become more fluent in Italian. She speaks slowly and clearly, is very patient and friendly, and gives relevant work exercises that fit the level where I am and helps me to progress from that point. I highly recommend her as a tutor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a credentialed Italian native teacher with more then 15 years of experience teaching all levels of Italian in schools for the San Diego School District and Southwestern School District and for several private Educational Institutions before I started tutoring privately. I graduated with a BFA from NY University and attended seminars and workshops in second language acquisition in the U.S. as well as in Italy.
I use a variety of teaching methods in order to reach every student with different learning styles and have them succeed.
Visuals such as short videos and stimulating activities are used in my classes and are two of the best ways to have students interact and practice the target language and enjoy learning it.
