About Mercedes

Hi there! I'm here to help all kids (elementary - high school) with all their academic needs. I'm great with math up to algebra, U.S. history & government, literature (I love all the greats that kids had to read in school), and writing.

I have my BA as well as Associates degrees in Fine Arts & Humanities, as well as specialized degrees in the law. I also do public speaking and can help those who have to give speeches or need assistance with getting over any fears or anxiety with public speaking. I'm also available to help students with essay writing, such as book reports, essays, and research papers. I'm willing to travel reasonable distances and am available on the weekends as well as after business hours during the week. Please feel free to contact me and set up a meeting.

I'm great with kids and have been watching the same child who is now 4 since he was 6 months old, as well as his new baby sister who is almost 1 year old. I understand there is a great patience needed in dealing with children, and can understand why parents seek outside help because they are either too close to the situation or just need someone who is a bit more experienced in a certain subject. I love kids and have a way with helping them stay focused and can give them pointers in success. I can't wait to hear from you and help your child succeed.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Criminal Justice

I am qualified to tutor on the subject of criminal justice because I have my BA from Cal State Fullerton in 2013 in Criminal Justice with a minor in Law, Politics and Society. The program I took was a triangular approach which covered the courts, policing and prisons. I was taught the why's and how's from delinquency from children up to adults as well as legal psychology. Feel free to contact me for tutoring.

Microsoft Outlook

I use Microsoft Outlook on a daily basis for my personal email as well as work email. I can set appointments/meetings, manage a calendar and my contacts.

Microsoft Windows

I have been using Microsoft Windows since its inception and am proficient in all forms of Windows. Everything from Vista, 7, and 8 is what is used in my home.

Public Speaking

I have over 20 years of public speaking experience. I have been involved in theater from high school all the way through college. While in college I competed in public speaking competitions. Additionally, I competed in speaking competitions geared towards the legal field. For example, at Cal State Fullerton, I was on their moot court team which involves doing mock supreme court arguments with a hypothetical case using real supreme court cases to argue your side for 10 minutes while a panel of judges also asks you questions. I have taken interpersonal communication as well as public speaking and critical thinking. I have many years of public speaking experience and would be able to successfully tutor anyone in public speaking.

Reading

I scored 100% on the reading qualification test. I'm an active reader for pleasure.
