Hello and welcome! My name is Natalie. If you're perusing my profile right now you are probably looking for a way to deepen your knowledge in Math and/or Science and that's great!
I have recently graduated from UC Davis in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and perhaps you may have guessed but I love learning about science. The only thing I enjoy more than learning about it is teaching it to others. I have worked as a tutor at UC Davis' student academic success center and have taught over 200 students in biology and chemistry. Many of my students have told me that thanks to these tutoring sessions they were able to improve their grades and most importantly began to really understand the material they were learning.
I also have experience teaching younger children, through working and volunteering in elementary schools for over 5 years. I work hard to form a connection with my students so that their learning experience becomes more fun and is personalized to their needs. As a tutor and a tutee I understand the importance of a one on one learning experience. Which will further your understanding of a subject as well as enhance your learning experience. Tutoring sessions can also help improve your studying techniques leading to a better education experience in the future. Thank you for visiting my page and I hope that we can discuss what ways I might be able to help you or your child have the best tutoring experience possible to get the results you want. Natalie is a wonderful tutor! She is very patient and knowledgeable. Natalie is outstanding at breaking down complex information and works with my daughter to make sure she understands the material completely. Natalie is very committed to helping her students and has fit my daughter in for a tutoring session with short notice. My daughter really enjoys working with Natalie! Natalie is truly outstanding and we are very fortunate to be able to work with her!
I'm a mom to an 8 year old who is an aspiring chemist. I home-schooled my daughter on and off for kindergarten through 2nd grade. I have handled the science questions with no problem up until this school year. My daughter started asking questions about science that I just didn't feel confident answering, so I decided to look for a science tutor to come and teach a lesson and do an experiment.
Natalie immediately responded to my request on WyzAnt, and she has just been the best tutor/teacher/mentor ever. She explains elementary science to my daughter in a way that an 8 year old can understand. She makes it interesting and fun, and is patient enough for the many questions an 8 year old would have. She brings her own materials, which means she is always prepared and ready for science! If I would've had her as a science tutor as a child, I would've definitely gone into the field of science.
I can say lots of nice things about Natalie, as I already have! But truly, it's my daughter who should be writing this review. And what I can say about that is that every time Natalie leaves my daughter gives a very disappointing, "Awwww". My daughter would have Natalie over daily if she could! My daughter even teaches her friends at school during recess what she learns from Natalie. Also, she's advancing through 3rd grade science and has already stumped her teacher with science questions.
Needless to say, Natalie is the BEST!
Natalie accommodated a need for (not prearranged) extra time the night before a test (it helped a lot). Also a great help with some on-line class activity.
Natalie is always on time as scheduled. The student doesn't like (loathes) Chemistry but there is a good deal of humor and fun in the interaction with the student, so it makes the difficult subject palatable. BTW: The above-mentioned extra long session before the test paid off hugely. My daughter got an uncharacteristic A. No guarantee of any repeats, but that was great.
12/26/13 - After several more sessions, we are still VERY happy with Natalie. My daughter has moved from a low D to a B in chem, and a lot of that is due to Natalie's help.
1/14/2014 - I didn't mention that my daughter goes to a school which has the two-hour classes that do a whole year in a semester. Natalie has been extra valuable because of that accelerated schedule. Tonight will be the last Chem tutoring, with the final exam tomorrow. We can't imagine a better tutor or better results. Thank you so much Natalie!
1/18/2014 PS: Daughter got an A- on Final Exam. This solidified her somewhat shaky B.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
