The courses I took during my undergraduate and graduate study included curriculum and material design, pedagogical methodology, language assessment, close and extensive reading, etc.
Since college, I've been tutoring in English subjects, including elementary school level, high school level, TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, etc at at different language institutions in China. After coming to US, I've also been teaching ESL and Chinese (Mandarin) at entry level, intermediate level and advanced level for various programs such as summer camps, after- and in-school language programs, etc. Many students say they love the way I teach, and parents tell me their kids are really into what they learn and have made huge progress.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. I'm a native speaker of Chinese and I've lived in Shanghai, China for the past 22 years. I'm proficient in Chinese Mandarin and Shanghainese dialect. I am an international student who took TOEFL to apply for graduate schools in US. My IBT score was 110 in total: 29 in Reading, 25 in Listening, 26 in Speaking and 30 in Writing. With that score, I was admitted by University of Pennsylvania, Duke University, George Washington University, Ohio State University, and Boston University. Finally I went to University of Pennsylvania and earned a Master's of Education there.
