I'm a Chinese native speaker from Shanghai, China. I got my bachelor's degree in English Translation and Interpretation at Fudan University, Shanghai, China. I furthered my education, receiving my master's degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages at the Graduate School of Education, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The courses I took during my undergraduate and graduate study included curriculum and material design, pedagogical methodology, language assessment, close and extensive reading, etc.
Since college, I've been tutoring in English subjects, including elementary school level, high school level, TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, etc at at different language institutions in China. After coming to US, I've also been teaching ESL and Chinese (Mandarin) at entry level, intermediate level and advanced level for various programs such as summer camps, after- and in-school language programs, etc. Many students say they love the way I teach, and parents tell me their kids are really into what they learn and have made huge progress.
I'm an organized, responsible, and careful person. My teaching philosophy is that motivation is everything. I'll try every means to motivate students to their uttermost on what they are learning. For young learners, stories, pictures, and activities will be used to make the language fun and easy to learn. For adult learners, explanations of grammar, class interactions, relevant assignments will effectively enhance their language learning. To put it short, you'll love and achieve what you're learning here, which is the best reward for me as a teacher. I'm a Chinese native speaker from Shanghai, China. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
