I have been a teacher and a coach for over ten years. I have taught grades 2, 3, 5, as well as ESOL, in both US schools and internationally. I worked for seven years at one of the top international schools in Zurich Switzerland. I also have coached basketball and volleyball at both the middle school and high school levels. I have a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Michigan and an undergraduate degree from Emory University in English.
I have just moved to San Diego and would love the chance to tutor. I have children of my own, so I have decided to take a break from the classroom, but I would love to still get to teach! I think it is important for a student to really respect and enjoy their time with their tutor if they are going to make significant improvements in their studies. I like to establish a good rapport with my students and then I push hard! Kids respond to a challenge and to a teacher who they think believes in them and their abilities.
I would love the chance to help your student with their studies! I have a fairly flexible schedule so just let me know your needs!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I played basketball throughout my entire youth. I coached middle school girls basketball for 2 years in Zurich at the international school. I also coached the junior varsity girls for two years.
I have a master's degree in elementary education from the University of Michigan. I was certified in the state of Georgia to teach grade k-8. I most recently taught grades 2, 5 and ESOL at the Inter-Community School in Zurich Switzerland.
As an elementary school teacher I have used phonics throughout my career. I have used the progressive phonics method in grade 2 which I taught for three years.
I played varsity volleyball throughout high school and was the captain of my team for two years. I then went on and played one year of college volleyball at Emory University. I coached the varsity girls high school volleyball team at the international school in Switzerland for three years.
