In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I took a number of lower division Economics courses in college and began with some upper division courses. My major of International Studies included an International political economics course where we studied the economics of development. I changed part of my major to be less focused on economics because many of the interesting courses were no longer offered. I always received high grades in my economics classes.
I have spent over 2 years working with ESL students in and out of the United States. I have taught students from elementary school to adults of all levels and in different focuses of English - listening, reading, academic listening, conversation/speaking, writing, idioms, etc.
I have played soccer for over 15 years, beginning at age 5 and playing through high school and university. I was a captain of multiple teams, which included running drills and conditioning, and know the game very well. I have experience working with children and adults.
I grew up playing tennis with my family but really developed my skills in high school where I played for the varsity team for 3 years. I took lessons from a tennis pro for 4 years and mastered technique and strategies for the game. I was the captain, playing both singles and doubles, for 3 years where I was running drills, conditioning, and coordinating the team. I played in CIF as an individual player and as a team which included playing ranked players in California.
